I think £10m is a bit steep for a 32-year-old but we need experience and leaders on the pitch.

I did initially think Swansea are proper mental for turning down our bid, but given there are only ten days to the start of the season, I see their logic.

I'd still like us to sign him but not for much more than the £10m we've already bid.

In todays market despite his age if we can get him at 10M that's a steal. CBs can play well into their 30s and we can get 3-4 years out of him.

I for one would like Williams to join Everton. We missed good old fashion centre backs who clears the backline and offers a good defensive challenge in the air. Gone are the days of Gough, Stubbs and Weir. I rather have them than twinkle toes center backs who might crumble anytime under pressure.

Some of the best signings throughout our history have been players in there 30's

There is a fetishism around potential. I'd rather current ability or effectiveness.

Williams would he more effective than Stones right now. Maybe Stones will go on to be the greatest centre half ever. Hope he does but until we have some stability we need solid players

In what way is Williams a gamble? A proven premiership player and leader. I'd suggest it's more of a gamble asking a championship player or lower league player from another country that you are suggesting we should sign to be more of a gamble.
His age & his Welsh national team commitments there defence was not that good last season either, as for a good Euros the same could apply to Shane Duffy?

Your forgetting Wales qualification over 2 years was built on a solid defence, Coleman has openly admitted a change of tactics & making Williams captain as the main reasons for the turn around in performances. Make no mistake Williams is a LEADER, Everton do not have anyone with anywhere near his leadership qualities.
