Ashley Williams

I really cannot understand why people are so down on this potential transfer.

Every sodding season I hear people around me saying "that Williams is good....I wish we had him".

And I agree with them.......many of us post that sentiment on here after we play Swans.

Use your own eyes.....he is one of the best central defenders to visit us in the EPL.

He was impressive at the Euros.

If we get Ashley for ten million I will be cock a hoop.

Imagine the fume on here if Huth and Morgan had been unveiled as our new centre back pairing this time last year :pint2:

There are people who will try to justify everything Everton do or are even said to be trying to do, just to be a superfan or whatever.

I prefer to call a spade a spade.

Agreed Tubey.

His age is a concern, but he could well be the next Diston, which I'm sure few would complain about.

He's still £5 million too much at that Bruce. Don't you agree?

For sure, prices at the moment are nuts, and I'm almost sure that players from Portugal and Wales that no one would look at twice before the tournament are being touted around after it. Williams is perhaps one of the better ones in that regard in that he's always been a solid and unspectacular player. £10m is sure a lot of money for that kind of player, but if we're honest I'm sure we'd admit that £50m for Stones is equally insane.

I'm glad you agree.

Even more diplomatically than what I'm saying:

Also he is a great leader and we are short in this area.

We need a commanding CH who organises and is willing to give everything he has.

It is for me a no brainer in signing him...

I think we should hurry up and sign him, we need at least one defender who knows how to defend.

Would be delighted with Williams if we could push through a deal.

As said before, maybe in another thread, but he'd be an actual addition to the defence imo rather than just a replacement for a player leaving.

If Stones stayed (don't think he will, but if he did) and we had Williams, Funes and Jags (plus the youngsters - IMO Holgate has been the star in pre-season in terms of the academy lads) then we'd have a great defensive unit. Equally so if Stones went and we went out and got Koulibaly or the like as a replacement.
