For sure, prices at the moment are nuts, and I'm almost sure that players from Portugal and Wales that no one would look at twice before the tournament are being touted around after it. Williams is perhaps one of the better ones in that regard in that he's always been a solid and unspectacular player. £10m is sure a lot of money for that kind of player, but if we're honest I'm sure we'd admit that £50m for Stones is equally insane.
Spot on Bruce.
Stones is worth £50m in the current climate because a) we don't need to sell, b) he's one of the best youngsters around and c) the fees this summer are mental.
But, by that logic an experienced PL player who is a very solid defender and a real leader, in his prime as a defender, is worth £10mil.
I'm think this would be very much a 'Distin-type' signing. We signed Sylvain in 2009 for £5mil, when he was 31.
Seven years later, a player with the equivalent experience and talent and at the same age is worth double. That's down to inflation and it is what it is. It's all relative, just how 5 years ago £30mil would get you David Silva, but now doesn't get you Troy frigging Deeney.
