Only been here a season mate.

Broke into the Argentina side and established himself as a first choice starter; winner of the Cope Libertadores (scoring in the final); has scored 4 times in 31 games for us (a better goal rate than Bolasie!). He's got a much better pedigree than Stones.

I honestly dont know what goes on in the thinking of some supporters that they see the progress of that lad and how short a time period he's been here, and think he's dispensable. I bet Ronald Koeman doesn't think so, not by a long chalk...as the church mouse will find out soon enough.

LOL

Yeah mate, Ronny really rates him, hence why he stuck 2 30+ defenders ahead of him yesterday.

Hes done here.

If you knew your stuff - like what I do - you'd know that the red faced Dutchman likes to blend his central pairing. He doesn't want two like Williams and Jagielka.

...anyway, it's nice now we're all on the same page about Koeman and CB duos. It was only two weeks ago I was being scolded for telling some here that Koeman favours a back four, and the experts reckoned "oh no, he plays a back three lad".

I'm glad that one's sorted now.

Almost certain hes played a back 3 in every game at some point so far Dave.

Crikey, this is all getting a bit obvious here Dave, it's like Everton is your mum and Martinez is your dad, you have some step brothers (Baines, Jagielka and Mirallas) which you can't stand as they came from a previous relationship your mum had (with Moyes) and now the mighty Koeman has come in to replace your dad (in this metaphor) you're determined to snipe away.

Just enjoy it mate, we've made our best start in years, we look likely to do some business in the next 72 hours and Martinez has got himself a decent job.

lol

I think he's a good lad. Defensively he is still young, but as you say he brings something to the team. Ultimately he will be one of our first choice CB's and a decent one too......

In-game switches aren't 'setting up'. It's natural for a team to try formations throughout a game. But when push comes to shove Koeman is for 4 at the back.

I'd have him on the pitch for his presence in the opposition box alone.

He's a competitor and he's a winner. We need more of them not less.

ok then Dave in 3 league games we have set up with a back 3 two times and a back 4 once, so hows this proving your point again?

Do you mean Funes Mori? Argentina lost in the final was it?

Koeman is using the tools he had to hand in that first PL game. It was (as it was at S'ton for a while) a case of needs must.

When a black swan glides past you down stream, do you think "oh, all swans must be black then!"? Or do you wait and see the mode?
