One match ban or two?
Robles had this covered you can see by the replays. Williams was just being lazy and lacked awareness of the keeper
If I'm being harsh I don't know why he didn't use his head rather than arm but his reaction when he went off he looked like he didn't care to me. Not the loud hard hitting solid defender he used to be
Havn't had the benefit of seeing a replay, but I reckon he did well to get a hand to it.
Lukaku is in attack. My point is that he's not shown leadership qualities or any form himself in defence.
And his attack on Lukaku was embarrassing from a man who's own team ethos was questioned in that Wales/Ireland international.
He's cracking on in terms of age and not the answer for us. I'd sell him on quickly and cut our losses. Plenty of better players out there.
As you said we couldn't even defend set pieces last year. You could sense the fear in the crowd. No doubt a penalty in my mind but a straight red was harsh. How many goals have we conceded from set plays this season compared to the last 2?
How many clean sheets have we kept this season?
Williams has played more times than any of our other defenders or goalkeepers this season and that cannot be a coincidence.
Our concentration is so much better this season to last season or the year before.
Williams is not perfect by all means but he has by far been our best defender this season.
I feel there is a lot of knee jerking from Saturday about. The defense were not great by all means on Saturday, but also they were not protected at all by the midfield and had to deal with a very shaky Pennington.
100% a new centre half needs to come in to take us up a level. But the defense by large, apart from a few blips have been good this season

I agree. He put in the type of performance I'm used to seeing him put in against us for Swansea. But that's sort the sort of game he excels at. Backs to the wall under the cosh where teams are bombarding our area. Realistically, we'll only get a handful of games like that each season, whereas Swansea and Wales will have a lot more, which is why he looks so effective for them.I thought before his rush of blood in giving away the penalty, he was awesome last night! MoM for me up to that point and his best performance in an Everton shirt.

Imagine the motion if he hadn't have put his arm up - diving face-first into the turf. Won't blame him for that.
I have my eye on other potential scapegoats further up the pitch.
Why does there have to be any scapegoats?
If Shaw connects with the shot properly and puts it over the bar, then we are talking about a brilliant night for Everton and brilliant performances all over the pitch. Horrible to lose the 3 points like that but there is really no need for an inquest.
