Ashley Williams

I've calculated he will cost Everton £6.8 million per season for the next three years if these figures are correct.

Thats far too much for a player with NO value at the end of three years.

If the fee was lower I wouldn't be against it. But its too high.

Exactly
we have 2 of the best or potentially best defender in the league and can walk into any team comfortably. We just have to coach them good defensive habit and we'll be fine. Koeman was a world class defender at his playing days and I don't see why he can't transform stone into who we want him to be or instill solid defensive habit back on jags.

If we're going to sell stone, get someone in with similar or higher stature.

A couple of years ago, yes. Today... I'm not so sure. They finished below us and had 3 less goals scored against them... I'm not sure what were actually standing to gain.

Anyway I trust Koeman to steer the ship regardless so if he thinks it's a good move, then get that good move on and get him in.

What is the point having money if you're not going to overspend once in a while?

Every other club does it, if we don't do it were going to get left behind

I wonder what it will take to make some people on here happy. Wetting the bed one minute because we haven't made a signing, then crying their eyes out over the price when we do make one.

Then if we signed someone on the cheap who nobody had heard of it would be 'need to spend more money to take us to the next level'

I'm as relaxed as its possible to be over it all.

Not bed wetting in the slightest and have actually said to people to relax.

The point is this.

Is Ashley Williams going to 'take us to the next level' - really? o_O

Can you say that honestly?

And at £10 million plus all the other costs?

Yes, I don't think so either.

He would give us 2 to 3 years no nonsense experience at the back while we try to build the club up again. It's a no brainer for me, and at this current time, a more realistic appointment if it happens.

If his surname ended in 'z' or 'ski' we'd be wetting ourselves with excitement. He's a good player.

We probably need four centre backs. When Stones leaves that will leave us with just two, so he isn't a bad option to fill a place at that price. Distin was a similar age when he signed and was a great servant.

Well he is 100% better than what we have and therefore will improve our squad. I didn't say he was going to take us to the next level

It's a good signing despite the price.

The transfer fees are ridiculous this summer. 10 million is not that much at all any more.

If you've got a suggestion of a better centre back we could sign for less than 10 million id love to hear it

Williams is consistent and proven, Leicester won the league with 2 centre halves of that type last year. As classy as stones is on the ball he makes 3 or 4 mistakes a game defensively

I can understand people having this opinion, but for me i. The current (frankly insane) climate, £10M is the equivalnt of 4 or 5 million this time last year, at that (relative) price, he would be an excellent addition to our squad! Two or three seasons in the team plus his leadership qualities would make him a very good short term signing to be fair! In answer yo your question, would he take us to the next level? No, he would not! Would he steady an extremely rocky defensive outfit. Yes he undoubtedly would! So for that, i would say he is worth the money?
