Ashley Williams

I still think with Stones leaving we will sign another CB who will end up competing with Mori for the left side position, Jags and Williams for one side, Mori and another.

Dont see how we are losers in this situation for a fee which in this summers transfer market is an absolute steal.

Id be shocked if anyone would think its a long term fix. He would however come in and be a massive improvement on lots of things we require. Not least leadership.

I agree mate, I can't hide the underwhelmed feelin, so have to be honest.

But I have to give the lad a chance, and like another poster said, he can hit the ground running and knows how to do the business. He could probably teach Mori a few things the mad nutter.

I'd pay £15 million or maybe £20 million for someone who will give us more years and some value at the end of it.
or 10 mil for 2 seasons while galloway and pennington develop into class defenders under two internationals, as well as two of the most experienced defenders in the league... im not challanging you like the rest of the members either, honestly, if you feel that a younger cb that gives us a few more years for our money, you more then welcome to think that. As a massive fm and fifa fan, i understand your logic... i just enjoy youth progression a little too much lol and would love to see us keep promoting our youth... probably not the mentality to have when we have been promised serious investment... hopefully no one rips my head off for having a different opinion....

If we get two solid seasons then £10M for a proven Premier League centre-half is a snip considering Galatasaray are reportedly gonna pay between £1M-£1.5M for a season of Niasse.

Worrying about the resale value of a £10M player is a bit Hamperman/Bungalow under the current TV deal.

I don't get this whole age thing, i remember when Gough signed for us, he was immense for a while, same with Distin, we had a good few years out of him. Williams i reckon has at least three years left in him at the top level. After which we have Holgate and Galloway coming through who should be in a position to take over and that's without us buying another Centre Back.

On top of that 10 million in today's prices is a pittance really when you see rubbish like Allen for 13m and Ibe for 15m, thats before i even mention that reserve Liverpool full back who went for 6 or 7m to Bournemouth.

Last season we couldnt defend a cross for toffee (pardon the pun) and in that respect Williams every-time i see him gets behind most things so we are already a lot stronger than we were last season, even if Stones goes. Regardless of age and price you have to ask yourself are we addressing the areas we struggled in last season and if the answer is yer then surely it's a no-brainer??

Thats the way i see it mate, i think that we will bring in someone else with Stones going out. Koulibaly or someone else, but i think that we will not only make Williams our only CB signing.

I think its a smart move, we are a soft touch at the back (and everywhere in general really), Williams is definately not a soft touch and can take any pressure off another CB signing performing straight away, especially if they come from outside the prem.

williams is left footed if that effects your logic, so id sooner think it was Jags/?? Mori/Williams. Some will have the opinion that strong foot doesnt really matter... and professional footballers can use both feet, just some food for thought i guess.

He showed some real balls in the Euro's for Wales. Things the best England players dream of doing at big tournaments but never can.

Well either or really, think we will have 2 CBS per side competing.

didn't know he was left footed though, he has played on the right had side a lot of the times I have watched him!

Williams has had the snip? Hope it doesn't affect his testosterone levels, we need a bit of aggression out on the pitch.

A lot of our own players didn't do it mate.

Last two seasons we have had zero players who have tried to drag us through the crap... performances everything. I think Williams would do that. Don't have to give him the captaincy, he is a leader. we need them all over the pitch.
