Ashley Williams

Looks like Koeman thinks we are physically weak down the middle with the likes of Williams, Fonte and Koubialy being linked at CB and Witsel and Carvalho in the midfield.
Would add some strength and quality.

Well either or really, think we will have 2 CBS per side competing.

didn't know he was left footed though, he has played on the right had side a lot of the times I have watched him!
to be fair mate, im only saying his left footed because hes left footed on fifa.... jags played on the right hand side all season and had some very solid games, proving it doesnt really make a difference... just putting my two bobs in haha

I think so too.

The feeling I'm starting to get is that while Moshiri is willing to spend big in the transfer market at some point, there's been a gradual realisation that we have to improve our standing in the league in order to get the most out of spending big. That's why I think we've gone from Koulibaly to Wiliams and from Carvalho to Gueye.

This is just me speculating however.
I don't think that is unreasonable.
I also think that some people are expecting every signing to be a marquee signing.
I think that before the end of the window we will see one or maybe two "marquee" signings but a lot of the business done will be solid signings but not spectacular.

No and NO. :coffee:

Distin.. who you claim wasn't worth it because he was *too old* played over 200+ games for us and was consistently a good defender (a couple of mistakes mind you) and 33 games in our 72 point season. (I know you'll like that reference lad)

You've made yourself look silly with your opinion on Distin and discredited your frankly weak arguments against Ashley Williams' age.

Will Ashley Williams improve our team in the short term? Yes

How many years of top level production can we expect from a 32 year old? Maybe 2 years if we're lucky

If he gets 4 million a year in wages and costs 10 million in transfer, is this quick fix bandaid worth 18 million for maybe 2 years of production with absolutely zero resale value? In my view, most likely no.

If we keep spending money on these types of players, Moshiri will be broke in a few years. This feels like a desperation move since our top targets are dragging their feet. Just because we have an influx of cash doesn't mean we should piss it away for old players who are more likely to fall apart than keep performing. Father time is undefeated. Defenders can last a little longer but 32 years old is about the time where they start getting worse. The chance that Williams will be one of the few that can last until 34 or 35 is very slim.

williams is left footed if that effects your logic, so id sooner think it was Jags/?? Mori/Williams. Some will have the opinion that strong foot doesnt really matter... and professional footballers can use both feet, just some food for thought i guess.

William's isn't left footed mate

He normally plays for Swansea on the left side of the defence, and in the middle of the three for Wales.

Thats your opinion mate.

Just because he played 200 games - doesn't mean he should of.

I know you don't like it. However, its my opinion £10 million is too much for someone so old. :coffee:

I don't know about you but I'd take Ronaldo for £10m...

Mate, we basically did this when we were skint with Distin. If he improves our defensive record then it is a great deal.

he is on fifa mate lol (yes i play fifa with my son, and i love every second of it)

Got nothing against FIFA mate. He's right footed but more than capable of playing in a two or three - given RK's use of the 3-5-2 last year that may even be an option.

Best thing for me though is he is the type of player we have been lacking and will improve us.
