I could prove it but he or she might get sacked and lose their mole status ...which none of us want I'm sure we all agree.

Your mole is history... we have had pictures of government id cards, and pictures from within finch farm.

We are still waiting for meeting room 4 and the lad in the hat doing running to tuck into his finger sandwiches.

wow, i usually get a horrible response when i mention fifa! but to be fair, fifa has extremely in depth statistics on every player world wide... a players rating on that game is made up of 50 odd statistics... sure its a game, but the stats, as well as the player rating upgrades from month to month really does help with player knoweledge across all leagues... seeing as im being completely honest, some of the statistics my son rattles off about our targets and their strengths, i think stevie walsh could learn some things off the kid hahahha

I watch footy for a living mate so end up seeing a lot of players anyway.

But I don't think you'd have to be an expert either way to know Williams would improve us.

He's worth over £2billion...

And why not? No bad injury record, keeps himself extremely fit. Never relied on pace so no worry of him doing a Distin.

Got at least three years in him at the top level.

Good signing.

His worth is debatable but one thing we know for sure is that he won't spend anywhere near his net worth on Everton. There's a limit to how much Moshiri is going to spend.

It doesn't matter how much pace Ashley Williams has currently, it will degrade more and more as he gets older. His quick-fire reactions will slow down and his body simply won't be able to do what his mind wants. It happens to everyone at some point. Distin was an aberration and even he fell apart eventually. It's a gamble to hope that Williams can last more than a year or two at the top level.

Don't get me wrong, I think that Williams will definitely improve Everton for this season but I think we're paying a high premium for that improvement. I hope we start focusing more on younger players that we can at least sell on if things don't work out. Lukaku was a fantastic deal at 28 million since I was sure we could get that money back. We're never going to see this Williams money again and that could cost us a great player down the road.

clearly mate, but he's a successful (very) businessman who will be aiming to put in the investment in order to build up the club. he ain't gonna be going 'broke'.

And dear me mate, it's like your describing the on-set of a stroke... he's 31, not 71!

In his prime as a cb having enjoyed a very good season at Swansea and a Euros with Wales. Offers organisation and steel to a defence that has been lacking that.

It won't cost us, we have the money. We're likely going to get £50mil for Stones - more than enough to buy a top-class younger centre-half should they want to join us.

Sports reporting mate - full-time but technically freelance, if that makes any sense - so not just the footy, a bit of everything. Few days off currently before the Olympics start.

Yeh it's not the worse job in the world. I suppose :)

lets hope he does a distin, but more importantly, can we attract any better defenders talent and leadership wise, with a similar cash : years playing ratio? and in two years, if he is done, and everything goes to plan and we are top 6, we will have the enough cash, a good squad, and a better table position to attract high class, young cb's. more importantly, we will be able to hold onto the likes of galloway who could be the next stones. needless to say, if things dont go to plan, and we stay bottom half, moshis money has been wasted either way...

It's possible that Williams lasts as long as Distin but it's unlikely I think. One or two years is probably the most we can expect. This feels like a calculated risk. We're willing to spend a ton of money to improve this year so that we can target better players in the future. If it works, great. If it doesn't, we lose money and Moshiri might be less likely to splurge again. I desperately hope it works and can get back to spending money on young players with resale value.

Do you play Football Manager as well? Who do you sign?

Underwhelmed here to be honest.

Positives if we signed him, are he is physical, good in the air and Premier League experienced.

This can't be a long term fix though, not at his age.

We have Galloway, Browning and Pennington knocking on the door. If one of those comes through to make it as a first-team regular in the next two or three seasons then signing Williams makes a lot of sense.
