Giving permission to talk is not the same thing as agreeing a fee.

I suspect that there was broad agreement between the clubs with the finer details such as a schedule for payments to be ironed out and the player was allowed to talk to us.

Swansea then thought they could screw a couple of extra million out of us and said no deal.

I stress I am not ITK but suspect that there is an element of Swansea not wanting to be seen as rolling over too easily and that this will go through if we offer a little more and /or the player hands in a transfer request.

I don't think we're being used here, Swansea are simply doing what every other club would do, but there's got to be a limit to how far we can go based on his age. I'm happy to see Koeman build slowly by buying more potential, so signing players like Williams is a good move if it provides a solid base for the young stars of tomorrow to develop and flourish. We can't compete with the very richest so we have to find another way, which is why we have pushed the boat out to get Koeman and Walsh.

I can't See him handing in a transfer request he seems a pretty decent guy. My opinion is if we won't pay the extra few mill or whatever it is he will stay and we will move on to other central defenders.

We never just go from interested to signed, even yesterday the amount of heads falling off because of an article saying West Ham was interested in getting Geuye even when everyone was saying he was at finch farm.

Its never straight forward, its like a Kenwright production, build it up then mess everyones head up, then a happy ending.

Except the happy ending only occurs 15% of the time

One thing for clubs to negotiate a fee, another thing entirely for Swansea to allow him to agree his own terms, verbally consent to him leaving then pull the plug for more cash. To me, £2m more and a subsequent PR victory for Swansea re 'doing all they could' will get it over the line.

we don't actually know what our offer is. heard as many 'reliable' sources stating closer to £8mil

Payment will be slightly restructured and we will add on some extra to make the fee sound better for them

Swansea looked like they got us to cave in to them
We get the player
Nothing money wise really changes that much, besides maybe a 1-2m increase if we achieve anythign when he is here and maybe a little more money up front (extra 1m or so ont he fee etc)
All about the perception for the deal now methinks
