Just back .. a few quick thoughts

Joel did well

I like the kit

King Kenny stinks of piss

Never ever ever a pen*

Duffy is not going to make it

*May well have been a pen, haven't seen any replays

Twas a blatant pen sir, Duffy thought he was playing beach volleyball for a brief moment. Although, we should have had a pen ourselves when Naismith, destroyer of worlds, was brought down in the box.

reading this... not a lot of surprises when you look at the team out. didn't see the game but emphasises to me that Oviedo and Velios both deserve more opportunities. The Jags incident for first goal sounds worrying if he is adapting too much, the last thing we need is him losing confidence. Hoping this was just one of those things and Martinez realises that Jags has to play as naturally as possible even if his own ideals have to be adjusted for now. Fellaini given the armband... love this. He will thrive given as much responsibility as we can. I think this lad still has gears to go into that will move us forward to the top 4 if we keep him for the next few years

likes this idea a lot .. and doesn't sound like something you'd do if the lad was moving anytime soon. IMO would make a far better skipper than Jags

Just like we shouldn't write players off after preseason games, we shouldn't start buzzing off youth players who have one game where they look half decent. People fumed for no reason for years about the likes of Barkley, Vellios and Duffy not getting a game when in reality they weren't ready the whole time. If a player goes a game without making a glaring error in a preseason game they so often seem to become superior options to seasoned pros to some.

Looked composed and eager, good movement. Quite impressive considering :)

I was going to make a comment on this. I was very impressed with Grant, especially considering I thought we had released him! He seemed to have a lovely left foot, comfortable, and physically able to handle himself. It is promising that a player like that, who is a long way from being our most talented young midfielder looks so assured. He reminded me a bit of Rodwell.
Also Duffy was nowhere near as bad as people are making out.

He was under a lot of pressure, getting closed down quickly at that point too.
Re Duffy, he just needs more practice and he'll improve imo, he's got most of the minerals. A year on loan to the championship if we've got cover. I think in the first half he was up against a very cultured forward, pulling clever Snidey tricks, was fast with good technique at full fitness, whilst he was on his weaker side :)

Here's a quick video I took at the game yesterday, from the back row, of the teams walking out onto the pitch.
