Judging players on tournament performances is very L'pool

I'd rather pay 30m for Joe Allen based on what I've seen this tournament, does he even get a game for them?

On topic though, for that money I'd expect a player who can affect big games, especially against "lesser" opposition.

Definitely wasn't at his best last night.

But in the first four games he was superb.

Agree Joe Allen and Ledley have looked immense this tournament.
But still not seen enough of Witsel to be convinced.

i see city signed a player Aaron Mooy via their feeder club in Australia and apparently the sister club will continue to pay his wages!! There are ways and means around ffp we just need to catch up!

But Mooy will literally be on no money at all 'relatively' speaking, compared to City players or even Everton players.

Plus, I'll be surprised if the former St Mirren and Wycombe reject actually ever makes an appearance for them. It's a marketing exercise.

Witsel has had an affect on every game so far bar last night.

He scored against Ireland, so there's the 'lesser' opposition.

None of the Belgian players played anywhere near their level last night. Witsel didn't stand out either way. But he was excellent against Hungary and in the group stages

Belgium simply doing an Everton last night ! Lots of very talented players that just didnt gel together - heads went down after the equaliser and never got back up.

Rather have Witsel to call on than Osman or some of the old levels of dross we would have usualy been linked with.

Nah Hazard still looked good last night, but was snuffed out by a back 5 covered by a midfield 3 and lack of runs/movement from his own team.

Witsel is obviously decent enough, but I'm just not sure he's £30m decent.

Its funny because if he had been boss last night everyone would be having a meltdown saying 'oh FFS now Chelsea will come in for him, Everton that'. Him having a quiet game works in our favour if anything. He's obviously a good player by all accounts.

Belgium just don't gel as a team do they? Despite all the individual quality of their players.

I'd say it's more the manager isn't very capable. The team showed they could play well against Hungary and Ireland, but for the second consecutive tournament, have gone out way too early, Belgium will see this as HUGE opportunity lost, due to the easy nature of their side of the draw, avoiding Spain, Italy, Germany of France, the four favourites.

Given the right manager, they could easily win the lot in Russia.

As for Witsel, why can't we have him AND Schneiderlin? The RS signed Mane for £36m, we could sign two for £50m?

But £30m is the new £10m - sad reality of the extra cash across the whole Prem league - everyone knows that everyone has the cash.

Lad is a very good defensive midfielder but looks like only money motivated...probably like 99% of modern day footballers tough. looks like Everton became rich a little to late. if it was 2 years ago kone would cost us 15m pounds. what annoys me is that clubs prefer not to low tickets prices which would cost them nothing really but see no problem in wasting 10m more on already overpaid ball kickers
