Saw him Vs Ireland he was boss. Hes not a defensive midfielder btw hes box to box.

He can play both, although personally think he's best when not tied to a defensive mid role, given Koeman likes to vary betwen playing two of them or one depending on home/away and the opposition - think we will see him palying both should he arrive, also think thats why the centre moids we've been rumoured to be after all have that flexibility about them

Hes from the same school of sceince as Fellaini and similar attributes in his locker, however far less awkward, technical, mobile and graceful.

I'd love you to be right.

But McCarthy is utter tosh.

Not played in the right role he isn't. Not at all.

As a holding midfielder whose primary job it is to break up the play and give it to a more talented player alongside him who can then dictate the pace/tempo of our play, and maybe occasionally make darting third-man runs from deep, McCarthy is spot on. He proved it in a pretty poor Ireland side all things considered.

Schneiderlin would be an immense signing.
Knows how to win battles, has played in England (including the lower leagues) for the best part of 8 years now. In the premier league with Southampton he was immense, under the dinosaur Van Gaal not so much, but yeah, in excited for the prospect of signing Schneiderlin.

I'd be delighted with any of those 4 arriving mate, all four have a question mark against them which probably makes them obtainable by us.

Kovacic - still young and not the finished article, has he peaked or is he still capable of becoming better (form at Inter after settling suggests he can keep getting better)
Schneiderlein - is he as good as he looked at saints or has he gone back a bit (so many players looked off under LVG that i'd say he can get back to his saints level form or better)
Witsel - played the last 4 seasons in a weak league, can he step up to the higher level of competition (international and european form for Zenit/Belgium says he can do)
Strootman - will he be able to stay fit and has the injury robbed him of something (form since coming back and no setbacks since feb suggests he can get back to his level before injury)

we line up with any two of thos ein centre mid start of next season then i'd be very optimistic

McCarthy won't be here in a years time

That first year he was great.

But he is the epitome of the Roberto Martinez reign of Everton. Was boss the first year, then flattered to deceive for two years.
We, as Evertonians, usually take to the hard working player, Andy Johnson springs to mind, whilst people fume over the likes of Lukaku for being lazy. Yet stats at end of the season show the lazy one to score more, whereas the tireless player is knackered.
McCarthy runs around a lot, but doesn't really do much, he tackles, but doesn't score enough, isn't a great attacking source and really if we're looking to improve like we say we are, he's someone who won't take us to the next level.

I appreciate the first year, but you don't win things living in the past.

Oh, and please, please, vault me on this in a years time please, because I'd love to be proven wrong.

We'll see.

I think Koeman will rate him highly if he can re-find his form - last few games in that holding role suggests he can.

If not then yes, he'll be sold.
Rons supposedly looking to buy multiple midfielders, tells me he doesn't rate a few we already have, 100% convinced McCarthy and sniverly won't be here for long
