Totally agree with the first paragraph. I think you highlighted the difference well, irresponsible dog owners should not be allowed access to these dangerous dogs, but then how do you police it? I get your points in the second paragraph but I still think it is irresponsible and totally unnecessary to own a dangerous dog if you've got young children.

Well what's a dangerous dog, mate? A poorly trained Labrador is more dangerous to a child than a well-trained Rottweiler.

animals i would leave alone with a baby - fish, mouse, hamster, guinea pig

animals i MIGHT leave alone with a baby - friendly rabbit

animals i definitely would not leave alone with a baby - dog, cat, horse, goat, unknown human

Guinea Pigs are lethal pal. I ate one once. Ended up losing 2 stone through sludging out my backside for about 5 days straight. Horrific.

On the dog topic. I think the owner is more important than the breed. Me and the missus got a lurcher about 12 months ago. He was always a little bit off, but mainly playful. We took him to training classes, followed it up at home. Gave him regular exercise. But we just didn't have the necessary experience to give him the training and care that he needed. When we got him, he was tiny but grew very fast. One day he got "the look" and went for my missus. Bear in mind, at this time, on his back legs he was bigger than her. I had to wrestle him to the ground and hold him until he calmed down. It put the fear of god into me. So we decided that we needed to find a new home which was more suitable. It was heartwrenching, but we found someone with experience with large dogs and he is doing great by all accounts.

He could have easily turned into a dangerous dog. But it wasn't his fault. It was ours, and we took the necessary action to ensure we were safe, and so was he.

I think these owners have no concept of what it is to be a guardian for an animal and that the welfare of the animal is paramount. Oh, and they let them crap outside my house.

i've always had pitbull's ..IMO with the correct training and discipline certainly in my case anyway they are the most intelligent , loyal , caring dog's i've seen ... cesar milian has a pack of red nose pitbulls like 30+ they would never bite anyone am certain of that ... and there the first dog to get a medal of honour :P ....... But i wouldnt leave my kid with any dog certainly not a fighting breed of any type
