Sorry, I shouldn't have used the Jewish cap as an example as you just try to pointlessly counter. Ok.......necklaces. They have no real function. Lets ban them. And while we are at it, all socks that go past your ankle. That top bit really doesn't do anything does it. Oh and sunglasses.....those cover your eyes, and ball-caps, they cover your head, all security issues. [Poor language removed], you know what....lets just turn ourselves into a police state, enforce a mandatory curfew and shoot any criminals, no matter how small the crime, on sight.

Get over it and stop being xenophobic. The world isn't becoming Islamic any more than it was 20 years ago. They only things that change is perception.

But as arguing with a brick wall shows, me typing this out is kinda pointless, as I am not going to undo years of deep-seated upbringing.

Really????? Last time I checked Iran is a different country with different rules. Get over it. You are not in Iran, you are in the UK. Which has no law against Burka's. If you want to change Iran, then you are going to have to firstly take over the country by military force (which you would no doubt be against) and then uproot centuries of culture. Have fun with that!

Who are you to decide what is right and wrong to believe. That is something that goes along with not only freedom of speech (which is a virtue you are exercising right now) and freedom of religion, but the very basic principles of human rights. Your argument is racist and it is xenophobic.

It is not racist to disagree with something. I disagree that the Burkah is nessessary. And my god, it is an instrument of oppression. It has no place. It is so the man can control his women. Against everything this country is about. If its so racist why have France and Italy banned them? There is obviously truth to what I'm saying. And I'm sorry there is no other garment that I can think of being regulally worn that is as much a threat to security as the burkah. If you can find another one in Islam, Christianty, Hinduism, Buddhism whatever, then I'd bloody well ban that too. Sorry just read that properly. Are you deliberatly being a muppet? The Burkah is nothing like ANY of those things. It covers your entire head and face!! Your being obtuse. Why cant they just wear the headscarf?

Dont get sucked into his arguement mate, especially with that. I wont even go near that argument because theres so many differences of opinion and it could get quite heated.

As for the Burkah, thats a straight forward issue of common sense. Some people are so scared of being called racist that they will stick up for Islam until the end, even if it is against there own beliefs. Its really quite sad. All I'm trying to do is tell it how it is. The Burkah and only the burkah is baaaaaaaadddd. Doubt youll find anyone on here who doesnt feel the same. Even some Muslims dont like it and understand why it should be banned.

I fully respect, though disagree with your view. Your perfectly OK with young girls wearing next to nothing, open to harassment and even potential rape or sexual assault, and you rage against a minority within a minority who wear more clothing than maybe sensible as if all burka wearing women are by default terrorists. Belgium, on its own admission has not more than 100 women wearig the full veil. And they pass a law for that? I bet they now feel really, really safe from a group of women.

OK, fine them for wearing the burka. Bam. oh, very good, very very good. And if they don't have money on them? And if they don't want to pay a fine? If France's law is not struck down by the European courts (it will be), I wouldn't want to be the first policeman who tried to undress a muslim woman in a muslim area.

Riots have happened for less, just look at Brixton in the 1980's when, in part, black men took great offence when the police started to harass some black women.

There are better ways of tackling an issue of cultural difference. Banning is the worst option.


I think that you should remember that if you can't implement a law, you probably shouldn't pass it. Belgiu

Sharpy, it might surprise you, but we live in a multicultural society, which is why we do not ban turbans, rasta tams, hats worn by orthodox jewish men, sari's or even men dressed as women. The only laws I know about related to clothing is indecency laws.

And someone wearing a balaclava wouldn't automatically be surrounded by police, it depends on the context. What if it was deep winter? Would you shoot someone for wearing a balaclava?

What's so sad about this "debate" is that it's one based on nothing more than fear.

It has nothing to do with culture or a British way of life, that's BS.

it is also not in france or even europe, clearly that is in afghanistan or somewhere where Women have no rights under Taliban rule i.e. extremism.
