Beer, revisited

Haven’t checked in here much recently because I haven’t had much inspiration, but a wonder from local brewer Abita: Maison Blanc (a play on Maison Blanche, a NOLA based chain of department stores ) is (a Pilsner?) brewed with Sauvignon Blanc grapes. It’s really nice.

Interesting i just looked it up hopefully the guys that i get beer from get this on the west coast.

Mad they brew like a hybrid mixing yeast for ale, the malt for pilsners and wheats and then of course becasue they used grapes they used the hallertau blanc hops which is used in ales that mix fruit due to its own smell and flavor profile.

I like some of their beers. I've had their purple haze, their amber one and the abbey ale they do seasonally i think or it was a special not sure.

They do some nice stuff but some of theirs I don’t enjoy. This is worth a try. It’s new, but hopefully you’ll see it.

Had a few of these over the weekend from the Speke based Big Bog Brewing co.

It's like a traditional bitter crossed with an IPA, so it's almost an orange colour.

It's a decent beer, but unfortunately the pub that was serving it, insists on serving it's beers slightly chilled, which kills the flavour a bit until it warms up.

That's a bugbear of mine : cold beers, which as you say, mask the flavour.

Had the most wonderful tasteful beer tonight in the Dispensary : The Yorkshire Brewer Fernandez brewed, Through a hazy memory, Black Voodoo Chocolate Orange Stout. F------ Amazing, smells and tastes just like chocolate orange, but not in a sickly sweet way.

It was so smooth it went down as easy as a simile that I can't think of. If you see it, try it.

My local got this in for the rugby at the weekend.

Not normally a fan of Wychwood’s stuff, as it’s full on hoppy, but this is good.

Tastes like an old fashioned best bitter and at 4%, you can shift quite a few of them.
