Beer, revisited

There is a refurb going on to open a big bar next door , the tap will then operate as the tap to a brewery that’s also getting built as part of the project . As I understand that’s not even the half of it .
So it makes sense for them to get in from the start, so they can use their combined experience to steer the pub in the right direction.

Sounds an exciting project, with a lot of potential.

Yeah and you couldn’t really get better , the tap already is like a different pub .

Im ready to be wrong but as far as I know it isn’t the bierkeller owners but an independent with a couple of bars in the stable and big ambitions .

It’ll be up and open soon and I’d expect to see a lot of blues in and around there .

Dom and Fiona will take a lot of punters with them, as they`ve got a really loyal set of customers, from their times at the Dispensary, Dr Duncan`s, Rigbys and the Fly.

Plus they`re both massive blues ;)

The big bar next door is meant to be a 1500 seat sports bar with copious amounts of televisions, or that's what I was told on Friday evening when in the Coburg.

Big Bog Brewery, based in Speke have opened a bar within the brewery, so you can buy their ale at source. ( I`ve never had a bad pint of their stuff ).

Opening hours at the mo, are weekend only : Fri 4pm - late / Sat 1pm - late. ( check the website first, as it can change ).

Address : 74 Venture Point West, Evans Road, Speke, L24 ( it`s the industrial estate by Speke Hall ).

Never had a sour beer before but this is rather nice. Sour and sweet and nicely refreshing. Shocked that it's 6 per cent as it's damnably easy to drink.

On a boring course tomorrow in Hertford. Checked into my tiny hotel room, it’s about 50 degrees c in there. Straight out to a pub with aircon and a reasonable pint of McMullen IPA. Just spotted a Wetherspoon over the street as well. Things are looking up.

Now in the Wetherspoons. Ordered a pint of the Jennings Cocker Hoop, but the girl said it’s just gone. So in a moment of confusion I seem to have ordered a Hophouse 13 Lager. It’s good actually.

Have a hunt around, as from memory there`s some cracking old country boozers in Hertford, selling local beers.

You`ll need wheels though, as a lot of them are on the edge / out of town.
