Beer, revisited

And very expensive too.

It’s like the brewery want it to be a “destination “ rather than a place to drink in.

There’s many places nearby that sell much better kept beer,
Although it was nearly six years ago, I had a disagreement with a teenage barmaid in there over a pint of ale that tasted horrendously tart, so I wanted to change it.

She, along with her fellow teenage bar staff, told me it was meant to taste like that after a few sips. I've been back since and the ale wasn't much better.
Was in there the other week and half the stuff was off.

Other than that it’s a brilliant pub but you can get a better pint in the fly and the loaf just down the road
Exactly. Like @COYBL25 mentioned, it's expensive and the ale doesn't match up to the standards of so many other other pubs nearby, which are often cheaper.

In fact, I'd rather drink in The Casa than the Phil!

It says a lot when the Font is consistently better than the Philharmonic.

I`ve drank off and on in the Phil for over 30 years, not so much now, as I don`t get into town that much now days, but the one thing has remained constant over this time, is that the beer is ropey as hell.

The thing is, that they do have regulars, especially in the bar and it amazes me that people would want to drink in there on a regular basis.

It`s a place to meet up and move on, nothing more.

Nice chairs, that's about it.

Especially, when you consider how close lots of other fine establishments are. We were regulars in Paddy's Everyman (now the Pen Factory, The Belv and the Fly.

You've got The Roscoe Head, The Dispensary and even the Cali, with the Cracke even being better under the current ownership and that's saying a lot.

For me, it's the pub equivalent of a fancy wine bar where people are happy to sit or stand around looking at the posh décor, while considering their superiority.

The quality of the ale comes second or third.

I've just showed admirable restraint walking past a large 660cl bottle of this nectar for £3 at Tesco.
I am a slave to this brew but normally can only manage a 330cl, so my thinking was I would have to drink the whole bottle and end up rat arsed.

I’d also recommend the bridewell , cracking little boozer and a cellar /service you’d expect given the licensees.
