Lad who's running the cellars knows what he's doing,Dave was very good at his job but he was know magician like some people make out.To be fair, the ale is as consistently top notch as it was under Dave, but the pints are still really good.

Like I said, I'm not knocking the new setup at all as the ale is the mainstay well kept, but Dave was rightly thought of very highly. Magician? No. Thorough? Yes.Lad who's running the cellars knows what he's doing,Dave was very good at his job but he was know magician like some people make out.
I agree with you, You know how stuff comes across on here.Like I said, I'm not knocking the new setup at all as the ale is the mainstay well kept, but Dave was rightly thought of very highly. Magician? No. Thorough? Yes.
I can remember one or two 'okay' pints under Dave, while the rest were always top notch. It was just a shame that he negated that by being an absolute barmcake.
That was when he was at his bes too; at his worst, it was hard sometimes not to want to deck him.
Ha! I hadn't heard that particular story, but I can quite easily imagine him doing that because I was once rebuffed for asking what a new ale tasted like.Did you ever hear how he legged Sean Bean out the pub for asking for a taster? Possibly my favourite all his antics.
Just watched the Northwest Tonight story about it. Pub looks amazing but for me the beer needs to be decent. It's just a shame that the Phil has over the past few years not kept its ale particularly well.

Bean was filming in the city and went in midday with some people who he was obviously filming with and done the unthinkable and asked for a taster, only to be told "get out and take his cronies with him"...had a story verified by a drayman who I know very well, who was delivering there at the time.Ha! Well, on the one occasion I asked him if he would recommend the pint his reply was along the lines of, "Well, I'm selling it aren't I? Buy one if you want to taste it."Bean was filming in the city and went in midday with some people who he was obviously filming with and done the unthinkable and asked for a taster, only to be told "get out and take his cronies with him"...had a story verified by a drayman who I know very well, who was delivering there at the time.

Can't be as bad as when the Stanley Docks were searched back in the mid-90s, where they found some questionable apparatus and what looked like an acid bath.Mirrors....beds......now be on your way!!!!
