Beer, revisited

Ok guys I’m over for the day in Liverpool. What are the best couple of pubs for a real ale buff like myself?

With missus and daughter so only a couple of pubs as gotta squeeze in other pointless stuff like the docks, museum, gallery, cathedral etc :-)

First port of a call has to 100% be the Ship and Mitre on Dale St.

After that I`d head over to the Hardman St area :

The Dispensary on Renshaw St ( mad John Cleese type licensee ! )

Just around the corner - the wonderful Roscoe Head.

On the corner - The Fly in the Loaf.

The Philharmonic - ale isn`t usually up to much, but the interior alone makes it worth a visit.

Then a short walk away is - the Belverdere.

Unfortunately another one nearby hasn`t re - opened yet - the Caledonia.

I can well believe it, as there wasn`t a single beer on draught in there that was palatable - even the lager smelt bad !
It must have been back in 2002 or 2003 that we started to have a quick drink in there after work, and it didn't take long to realise it was risking getting the trots.

We quickly moved on because of this and after watching Jess drinking the slops including a combination of different slops. I also saw objects in his drinks too.

If that's what he liked and could drink, there was no wonder he didn't look after his ale. He ended up closing on a Saturday and Sunday because of no trade.

Anyway, I was in there last weekend for a pint or two and it was much, much better.

Just off into town myself with the missus, I’ve had the Brewdog pub and Fly in the loaf recommended to me, feedback later
