With the fixtures as they are he will definitely get chances. Its up to him to take them. Kean didn't take his plus he was competing with DCL who is on fire. We need competition in every position and we now have this at CB. Lescott, Jagielka and Holgate all came in initially out of position and then earned their place. If he's good enough this will happen.

Always do CBs, have time out wide...

I like the sound of that. Keane is much improved but I always fear a mistake is in there. I hope we see Holgate and Godfrey as our long term partnership. The more pace we have at the back the higher the press can be.

...Godfrey is raw so expect flaws in his decision making. He might go to pinch a ball and get caught, but he should learn from mistakes.

Keane and Mina will always be vulnerable to being turned and opposition getting behind them.

I think Carlo will use his CB pieces as he sees fit from game to game.

Godfrey will play. Carlo will probably insert him for the first time when a current CB plays poorly, and then use the competition for places as a goad to demand performance. If he gets a rotation that he feels "works", he's likely to stick with it until someone has a poor match, then insert the combination he feels works best for the next fixture, and iterate.
Yeah agree with this broadly. I think for most games Carlo will mix up his defenders playing one of Keane/Mina alongside one of Holgate/Godfrey. Occasionally he may decide to play Keane alongside Mina if he wants to defend deep (thinking RS and City and maybe Leicester with Vardey) and Holgate alongside Godfrey if we want to play a high line against a counter attacking side.

Personally feel there are no stand outs amongst the 4, I like all of them and am happy to have them. Whoever is in the team will keep their place until form or injury requires a change, then it's up to the new incumbent to step up and keep his place. Competition is the name of the game.

I think our back 4 could be settled for some time. They are all of a decent age, have a good cross section of qualities and attributes, and one of our two younger boys will add cover and left foot versatility to the squad which we will need if we get regular European football.

If he's got Allan and Doucoure in front of him he'll be able to concentrate more on straight defending...should help accelerate his learning, hopefully. Anticipating really good things from him next year if he gets good minutes.

Better that than Tom Davies.
Coleman will be a huge loss. The RSs strength is down the left with the Mane - Robertson partnership. It is a baptism of fire if Godfrey is selected at RB, but in my mind it’s the only option as the RS will target this side and in particular Davies should he play there out of position.

I think Coleman will play as it was just a tweak and he is sitting out the internationals.

Hopefully anyway!
