I think initially he'll be the versatile defensive player on the bench but if either Mina or Keane have a stinker he will get a chance. Long term I think he will be first choice but he may just have to wait for an opportunity.
Thing is though we can't afford another Kean scenario where we have an expensive and talented youngster sat on the bench hardly playing.

With the fixtures as they are he will definitely get chances. Its up to him to take them. Kean didn't take his plus he was competing with DCL who is on fire. We need competition in every position and we now have this at CB. Lescott, Jagielka and Holgate all came in initially out of position and then earned their place. If he's good enough this will happen.

Let's put it this way; there's NO argument about who was Everton's worst manager ever, and we've had Martinez, Silva, Koeman and Allardyce.

I suspected he wasnt a success as he didnt last very long with Everton but it was not for me to comment as you were the supporters watching the football not me.

You make it sound like we bullied you in to buying him, and not that you came and offered us money because you were desperate for goals.

No I'm not just stating what happened. I actually blame my club and the former manager for buying a player who didnt suit what we needed at the time. Some players suit one club but another, just like managers.

No one bullied anyone. It takes two parties to make a deal. These things happened.

Any rough idea how much Dowell cost us?

It was listed as undisclosed everywhere it was reported, so I'm guessing minimal and weighted in terms of buyback clause, percentage of future sale and or performance related bonuses. Based on people in similar positions, like Walsh, Robinson, Williams, etc, id guess maybe between £1 & 2m? I have nothing to back this up with. Given the price of similar English born players, Godfrey included, id say it was a bargain for anything less than £10m.

This. And Seamus. Played right midfield ahead of Hibbert at RB when he first started getting games

He’ll get games all over the place. He’s probably first reserve at right back centreback and maybe holding mid as things currently stand.

For the first time in a while though we have 5 decent options at centreback.

If we play Godfrey and Holgate would they be physical enough or do we need one of them to play alongside either Keane or Mina?

Think they won’t play together as regular pair of cb. Will play with either Keane or Mina.

Or Godfrey can be an utility backup player from various positions.

...I reckon Godfrey is the most ‘physical’ CB at the club.

You need to watch the clip of him boxing. He’s a big powerful lad, but being ‘physical’ is not only about being big and powerful, it’s about playing with determination and aggression. Keane doesn’t play with aggression, Mina is more aggressive but doesn’t have the mobility to play on the front foot.

As I said, Godfrey is the most physical CB at the club.

I like the sound of that. Keane is much improved but I always fear a mistake is in there. I hope we see Holgate and Godfrey as our long term partnership. The more pace we have at the back the higher the press can be.
