I think he's done well coming in at LB. But the sooner Digne is back or we sign a new LB the better, he offers nothing going forward and that badly affects our ability to create openings and space for the wide players.

Agree. I’d love his energy in midfield but he doesn’t look anywhere near good enough on the ball to play there.
He looks like he was taught how to play football by a dad who played rugby league....head down and go for it.

Not saying he's poor, by any stretch; just saying he's not a player we can have out wide when linking up is a major skill-set of the position. He carries the ball ok, and I could envisage him at CB breaking centrally and putting pressure on the opposition.

He's an interesting player in that respect, and I look forward to seeing how he fares at CB.

Was a spot in the first half where all he had to do was hit it a bit wide and Richarlison and DCL would have had a clear 2 on 1. Instead he hit it to the only defenseman there. Richarlison was suuuuper annoyed.

I know it's not his job to be Digne but...that was really aggravating.

Watching the West Ham game, I thought Ben Godfrey looked like a player who had spent the previous night on the ale. Didn't have the pace to get forward effectively or to recover after getting caught out at back a couple of times. Still believe he's a top player though.

A lot of learning hopefully for him today....really struggled. He has to work on his passing ability if he wants to become a regular.
He is a centre back though, could you imagine yerry mina or Michael Keane filling in at left back and making the runs he does then us expecting a decent final ball too

Real lapse to play Soucek onside. Why was he 5 yards deeper?

Hes done really well but hes committed 2 match losing errors. He needs to keep working hard and improving.

Difficult to see for certain from the angle I saw but Souckek might have been level with Mina at the point the ball was struck by Creswell.

Did drift deep after trying to block the first shot but when he saw Creswell running onto the ball he opted to take a position to block the shot. At that time he's Soucek is behind him and I'd argue Holgate should take responsibility there but fails to react and is ball watching.

It's not a stand-out error and there are plenty of defenders who'll do similar in a game and win MOTM simply because a goal doesn't come of that particular incident. Nobody's looking at that if Creswell spanners it well off target or the deflection off Mina goes safe.

For example nobody tracks the run of, or picks up, Yarmalenko (No 7) running from deep into a very dangerous position and being played onside by Godfrey. But because it's not him who scores that isn't what's picked up as poor defending. Which it absolutely is.

Or if Soucek puts the ball to his left instead of taking the first shot of the sequence. Benrahama (No 9) is walking round in acres centrally on the edge of the 6 yard box. Lapses everywhere.

Really hope he can replicate his recent form as an RB when Digne is back. His pace and playing on his preferred side, hopefully means we have two overlapping, up and down full backs.

Will drastically help the likes of James and Richie who can then find space inside and not be subjected to 2 on 1 all the time.

Will not be much good at CB for heading crosses away with his head down. Haha.
