2020/21 Ben Godfrey

If I were Godfrey I would go to Newcastle before EFC. Mina and Kean are shoe-ins for the
centre back roles. Then comes Holgate and next year Gibson is back having conquered hearts and minds at Reading. The following year Brainthwaite is lined up for a role.

And remember Mina might surprise us all and stick it out for two or three tears more.
Presumably Ancelotti will outline what his role at the club is to be. If he’s one of our 4 first team CBS he’ll get plenty of game time given injuries and suspensions. Branthwaite is very young and o can imagine they will want him to develop for another year or two.

mina is a big scabby dog buddy.

Yeah they're strange club a s they don't actually perform that well but always seem to have a handful of valuable players. (Maddison, Aarons, Godfrey etc)

I don't know what's going on with us. I have to admit I'd lost faith in him with our terrible form since December but on the face of it he seems to have addressed a fair few issues. I still don't think we have the strength in depth to really improve on last season, especially with the adde d schedule of the Europa league games.
We have some serious talent in that first 11 though. Tielemans in particular looks absolutely class!
Just too reliant on Vardy.
Transfer business nearly always seems top notch but there really isn't anybody there even remotely able to fill the void that Vardy would leave if he were unavailable.

From what I'm gathering, there's a player there who needs to improve on the defensive side of his game but can provide good cover for 2 important positions.

You only have to look at Michael Keane to see the effect of Carlo's coaching on centre backs. Looks like we could have him and Holgate rotating, and Keane and Mina too. Sounds alright to me.

Do not want any of them, rather have Godfrey but also rather we held on until our injured two have recovered.
Me neither, I was just referencing average prem CB's for the same dough to compare against. Ideally if we did purchase Godfrey I'd like to think it would be with the purpose of being a starter the following season, so stick him out on loan to another prem side to gain experience. As you said our other CB's won't be long until they're back fit and playing. But I think getting this lad is an opportunity not to be missed.

Nah Iheanacho hasn't worked out well at all. Don't seem to be linked with any strikers so that's a worry. Need our wide players and Maddison chipping in with more goals this season

Steve Bruce vs Carlo Ancelotti

Tough choice

Reports in the summer that Bayern were sniffing around, quoted £40m. In this day and age £25m is like the equivalent of paying £4m before Chelsea and City inflated the market. He’s young and mouldable, I’d take him. Question is would you rather have Godfrey for £25m and see how he develops or get an established unwanted CB someone like Smalling / Jones / Zouma at £20m?

Smalling and Jones?!

I need a lie down

....I imagine targeting a player of this type suggests they expect him to be a starter. i don’t think Ancelotti or Brands see Keane/Mina as the right partnership with the right blend.

If he arrives, hopefully he cements his place, presumably alongside Keane and when Holgate is fit he’ll have to wait for his opportunity.
