I tend to agree on the CB front, just make and mend until Holgate and Branthwaite fit. AS you say look for a RB. If Carlo wants him well Ok but then we have 5 CBs!!!!

Maybe they feel being 4 th choice here will stunt Branthwaite development and the plan is to get him out on loan to the championship
Would not be surprised to see him go to Norwich for a season as part of the deal , maybe go in Jan if Holgate is out till Christmas

He is a centre--back not a centre-half. He is only six foot tall and right footed.

To my mind he is another Holgate.

I bow before Carlo but I agree with lampard's recent viewpoint that centre backs need to be powerful
players who can head the ball.

Chelsea’s defensive record so far this season would not lead to put too much weight to what Lampard says about CBs

Mina and Kean are playing well, in their prime and are big and physical. Godfrey is still learning. He is
another Holgate,

He gets in ahead of Mina every day for me.

I get the impression that Carlo still isn’t a huge fan of Mina, and he’s in, cause he has to.

He’s a good player Godfrey, and it wouldn’t be an insult to Mina if he got in ahead of him. Bit of competition never hurt anyone.

Imagine thinking a team are willing to pay £25m only to not give you a game.

Not happening, if we go and spend money on a CB, then he will be developed and will play plenty.

CB is more about the partnership than the individuals
They have to complement each other
They need to have different qualities
All the great sides from Don Revies Leeds up until now have had CBs who have different qualities
Mina and Keane while both good players are too similar

That’s 2 pairings that complement each other if we are believe what we read about Godfrey
Plus Holgate can cover RB and DM and Godfrey can cover DM
If Carlo wants him who are we mere mortals to disagree
Carlo will have had his own scouts watch him as well as Brands recommendation

Maybe you misunderstood or I was not clear
It would be Branthwaite out on loan , maybe to Norwich to sweeten the deal for Godfrey who will go straight into the first team squad

Plenty of games in a shortened season
Hectic Christmas period and hopefully good cup runs
A full 25/26 man squad will be needed and 4 CBs will all get plenty of game time

It stems from me thinking you meant Godfrey going on loan, not Branthwaite.
