I imagine we will sign him, they want closer to 30m, we've apparently bid 20 with 6m for potential add ons, which they rejected.

I think if we up the fee a little bit we'll sign him tbh, can see it happening over the next few days actually.

window closes on Monday so it’ll have to be the next few days won’t it? Or can we still bu domestically after? I thought the extra window was for EFL to take players between or from the prem

Seems excessive given that Holgate and Keane will be first choice, but Carlo and Brands have earned some credit so if this is what they want then crack on.

For those bothered by the relegation part, Jags came from a relegated side, as did Milner, Roy Keane, Joe Cole, Scott Parker, Mark Viduka, and Leicester signed Maguire from Hull. I don’t think we should be overly concerned by the relegation part. Let’s trust Ancelotti on this, if he truly is wanting this guy.

Really not a fan of buying defenders from relegated teams for the amount of money being thrown about in the papers.

Anything over 20 million is robbery for a championship defender imo.

Gotta go on a case by case basis on this for me. He's a very highly regarded English centre half who is still only 22. Seems to be good on the ball and is quick.

I bet you were the kind to say swerve on VVD when he was at Celtic because the Scottish League is [Poor language removed]. And I'm not saying he will necessarily end up at that level. But it's ridiculous to condemn a player with one year in the prem as a championship standard player.

I trust Carlo and Brands combined to know a talent. If they want him, that's good enough for me.

Van Dijk was playing Champions League footy and not looking out of place and this fella played in the worst defense in the Prem last year.

I'm not saying he's crap but I don't think we should be paying anything more than 20 million for a player with his record in the game so far.

Interesting.

20mm pounds for a younger CB who will presumably be backup? Unless he displaces Mina? What does this mean for Holgate?

He seems to have pace which is nice and the fact that Rio rates him highly probably means something... but he did just get relegated in a defense that conceded 75 goals.

As I said, interesting.

Not sure that paying 25-30 million is paying the premium for a British player.

Depends on how you rate Holgate cause having two lads who are very much like that could be massive for us going forward.

Personally, I can’t see us getting him, but excited by the method there, youthful and hungry.
