Interesting.

20mm pounds for a younger CB who will presumably be backup? Unless he displaces Mina? What does this mean for Holgate?

He seems to have pace which is nice and the fact that Rio rates him highly probably means something... but he did just get relegated in a defense that conceded 75 goals.

As I said, interesting.

Did you watch Norwich last season mate?

Fair play to Farke, as he wouldn’t change, and wanted to get the players playing his way.

But his way; with a very inexperienced group, just meant they got absolutely destroyed. He operated a high line and expansive football, the full backs were so often caught out cause they were so far forward.

I made comment a few pages back, that I think any of that Norwich youth group who made an impression over the past couple of seasons, would be an excellent addition to most Premier League sides.

I watched Norwich twice last season.

window closes on Monday so it’ll have to be the next few days won’t it? Or can we still bu domestically after? I thought the extra window was for EFL to take players between or from the prem
I read that we have until the 16th for him but im not sure, I'd argue everton would want a cb in asap rather than waiting till then.

For those bothered by the relegation part, Jags came from a relegated side, as did Milner, Roy Keane, Joe Cole, Scott Parker, Mark Viduka, and Leicester signed Maguire from Hull. I don’t think we should be overly concerned by the relegation part. Let’s trust Ancelotti on this, if he truly is wanting this guy.
We bought Gana from an atrocious Villa.

I did a bit of stat comparison on Godfrey to see how he measured up to our existing CBs and a couple of other rumoured targets, FWIW.

Apple for formatting. Essentially shows that Godfrey was comparatively poor in terms of tackles and interceptions (hardly surprising when you see how wide open Norwich tended to play), but had more blocks and clearances than anyone else in the list. Also seemingly the 2nd most accurate passer of the lot too.

Statistally he's closer in style to holgate than to Keane. Which makes sense given his similar height and age.

Seems excessive given that Holgate and Keane will be first choice, but Carlo and Brands have earned some credit so if this is what they want then crack on.

We need 4 centre backs, we only have 3 really right now (can't be relying on Branthwaite yet)...
Last night showed how quickly our team can be weakened by injuries...25-30m price range isn't bad for a promising young defender....add to that, I don't think we have any Centre back who is top quality, so it is an area where we can improve

Bit of a no brainer if we can get it done for around 20m. With a full season in the Premiership under his belt, English and only 22 the chances of us losing much money even if it doesn't all work out is slim to none. Mings was a similar fee for Villa and he wasn't even getting a game at Bournemouth.

Some great work there . Cheers sir.

Issue is the timing and age of the newcomer... so Gibson/ Branthwaite goes on loan and comes back a year from now.. he is blocked . Buying a player a bit older and more ready does nothing for those who pure sheer timing are not there yet but could be. Need to let the one not just there yet be the understudy and if he has to step up so be it..so many of our successes was because of injury and they had to step in.. not some clever development plan.

I said it before wrt to Nkounkou .. you don’t buy a 19 or 20 year old and then get a 22 year old cos you want a readymade backup.

At what point will your teen potential get the shot? Will they wait 5 years when your new 22 or 23 is approaching 30...

Cold heartedly the flip side is who has the higher ceiling?

So that’s what I said a few week ago..
I’m confused at how Carlo and Marcel see Godfeys elevation into the first team in terms of timing and the squad. How does he see Godfrey‘s development and potential vs Gibson and Branthwaite. To me it seems mgt don’t have the patience to wait for those two to “be ready” and want a more ready made player who is only a couple years older..

Is what it is in the cold world of team management.

if a bid like that comes in the press, 9 of 10 it is rejected. Doesn't surprise me.think the 6 mill add on will not be expected. make it 20m + 2 players lol
The bid is in the open now
Godfrey has probably agreed to join us and terms have been agreed
All he has to do is tell Norwich he wants to go and they will have to negotiate
A deal will be done
2m to york as a sell on
Heard today that will keep them afloat for at least 2 yrs without another penny coming in

Van Dijk was playing Champions League footy and not looking out of place and this fella played in the worst defense in the Prem last year.

I'm not saying he's crap but I don't think we should be paying anything more than 20 million for a player with his record in the game so far.
We had a defence consisting of
The English first choice GK
The ROI captain and RB
English international CB
Colombian International CB
French international LB
We conceded 56 goals
Are you saying all 5 of those are crap

OK I will give you Pickford ,but the rest
