…I’m a fan. I think he plays like the game matters, he plays like the club matters and he’s a true athlete.

He’s not the talent I thought he’d be. i was all in on him, but I now don’t think he’s of international quality because he’s not composed but I guarantee of all the central defenders at Everton he’s the only one forwards in this league will be wary of (Branthwaite could be classier).

He’s raw, but he’ll hurt when he kicks you. Not many players hurt when they kick you as a striker. He’d be a nuisance to play against but he has to play CB.

Surprised youre saying that after that performance today.

Cannavaro wouldnt have done much more.

….I think it’s composure and quality on and off the ball, Zat. He’s got a Rolls Royce engine but he’s not got Rolls Royce quality.

The top ones have physicality that makes them superior, they run alongside strikers knowing they’re in control. I actually see a bit of that in Branthwaite. Godfrey is raw on and off the ball, he reminds me lots of Keown. Nightmare to play against, though.

When I see our line up, I’m happy to see him as first choice CB. I’m a big fan of Godfrey, I have been since he signed but you have to reassess your view, I wouldn’t pick him for England.

i don’t want to be critical of individuals but there was no Holgate or Kenny today. I don’t think it was a coincidence that United didn’t have a free kick in a very dangerous position around the edge of the box.

All what you say, but needs to be braver on the ball, too much sideways and backwards, but by love his aggression, especially in a passive team like ours, also his pace, in a one pace team like ours, you need pace at the back and he has it in abundance.

….and that backwards and sideways is because he hasn’t got the quality in possession. I don’t think that will change (he did put DCL through at West Ham) but he‘ll find it easier if he’s got strikers he can hit the ball into rather than consider various options.

Honestly Keown hit the nail on the head for Ben. He does appear to harbour nervous energy and I have to say I was impressed with the improvements he made on Saturday and can only think it comes down to being paired with someone more experienced like Keane. Plus having Seamus in the back line can't have hurt.

Keown will do for me, in current (and, indeed, most) circumstances.

Comparisons to Keown are spot on. Little bit of Ratcliffe about him too. Credit where credit is due - played well yesterday. Just keep those buffoons Holgate and Kenny away from him.

Cwoar, Keown comparisons?

That's no bad thing, right? Always thought Keown developed into a great Premier league defender for Arsenal.
