….I said at the time that the injury might be a blessing in disguise for him. Watching from the sidelines is good thinking time, especially given where he was in his Everton career.

He’s got all the physicality a top defender needs (perhaps not the strongest aerially) but as a forward you hate playing against blokes like him. They have powers of recovery so you never feel clear of them, they are tough as teak and hurt when they hit you.

Fingers crossed he can begin an upward spiral as I had high hopes for him.

I know Haaland got his goal, but hes been getting 2 a game at home. He had 2 chances from memory today. I would say it was probably one of Haalands hardest games hes had at the Etihad. I'm not saying Godfrey dominates him, but he was given a role, and made it into a really good competition, and dare I say it-rattled Haaland.

You can never knock his effort or application, and he will probably be really helped by the two CBs next to him. The run out of defence in the 2nd half was excellent and unlucky not to win us a free kick. So his best display since Carlo left for me.

Just about to say that. This was the sort of game that suited him.
Still major concerns about him when we are not camped in.

I was surprised to see him given the role to disrupt Haaland rather than Tarkowski but he played it superbly. Well done to Ben and the coaching staff for the strategy.

Even if his role is limited to what we saw today he can still be a massive player for us. Tarkowski and Coady play every game in a two and then Godfrey comes in when we play three CBs. Keep developing Branthwaite behind those three and we may not need to further invest in the position yet outside of Coady made permanent.
He strikes me as the type that would volunteer themselves for it tbh

That's an amazing gif. I mean, why a player of the ability of Haaland would do anything other than smirk in pity at the likes of Godfrey, God only knows. Fair play to Godfrey. Gain whatever advantage you can gain. This might be the difference between Haaland and Mbappe. The Frenchman simply stuck four goals past Emiliano Martinez. He may have lost in the end, but he is clearly in the head of a goalkeeper who won the World Cup with a blinding last-minute save and a penalty stop and yet is still fighting in Vietnam if his Mbappe doll is anything to go by...
