2018/19 Bernard

Nah I genuinely believe he's the most overrated player in our squad. I'm actually concerned that we may overrate him more than Spurs overrate Sissoko.

I’d trust the opinion of spurs fans who actually watch sissoko play over yours.
Where are you based by the way? Are you able to make it to live Everton games?

About 12 months cumulatively.

Also no one cares that Cleverley had more goals and assists. He was crap and we were crap, and Bernard is good and makes us play good.
C'mon mate you must know it's about individual scoring/ assist stats and not how a team game is the sum of its parts fitting together...

I'm from Maryland. I missed a very small number of games last year. The West Ham game was one. I think there was another. Other than that I watched every minute.

And the Sissoko thing: you don't have to watch Spurs to know Sissoko wasn't better than every other world class player they have last year but that was Spurs fan's opinion of him.

I'm seeing this argument more and more now about how Bernard not being good himself is excusable because our team functions well and I'd like to point out that we finished 8th.

I have. And I've seen a player who's supposed to have an impact in the final third make none and instead only be impactful in the middle/defensive third.

Think about how many teams that finished above us last year that Bernard would start regularly for and then once you come to the answer of zero ask why that is. He's a mid table player and if we are happy being in the 7th place cup race then fine roll with Bernard. If not we need an upgrade.

Who do you suggest we should sign as a replacement mate ?

So you know better than people who actually watched him? Jog on.

Indeed we did finish eighth and lets hope we improve on that this season. However using your eyes you can see how Bernard steps off the flank and plays intricate passes with Digne, who himself assisted our higher scoring players. Movement and intelligent football can create goals without being the guy with the final cross/ shot.

But the stats don't show this!

First I'd like to see Lookman or Onyekuru given a chance. But if that can't happen my dream signing is Ziyech. That's unlikely too. The other guys we've been tentatively linked with like Under, Neres and Malcom would all be good moves imo.

If we really don't want to move Richarlison back to the left then Lozano, Iwobi, and that Everton playing for Brazil currently are all decent enough. There are honestly probably 40 players who would work.

Edit: Milot Rashica at Bremen is also a solid player who we could probably get with minimal effort. Forgot him.

Which is a complement to Digne more than Bernard. Also wingers can do all of those things and score themselves. It really is possible to do both.
