See but this is exactly what I mean. Chelsea are 4th so they are the team we need to be aiming to be better than if we want to make CL. I'd imagine almost any neutral observer would take any of their 4 wingers, Willian, Pulisic, Hudson-Odoi and Pedro over any of ours, Walcott, Iwobi, Bernard and Gordon.

So reality is if we want to get to that level Bernard is not good enough. Yet we come in here every time he is above average and act like he's world class. Yesterday he was fine and the pass for the goal was great, but if you go and look at the kinds of games better attacking players have had against Newcastle he was honestly underwhelming. And this is 3 days after he was so dreadful that he got yanked off at halftime for an 18 debutant.

We should have put the game away by the half hour mark yesterday with the space we had and the failure to do so rests at the feet of the 4 players we ask to create chances: Digne, Sidibe, Bernard and Walcott.

Bernard put in the better performance. Also Bernard got an assist, Walcott didn’t. That certainly is reality.

Walcott didn't because Mina and Bernard missed the big chances he created.

Which is why using just assists to judge a creative player is stupid. But use any other stat and it's "watch the game don't look at numbers."
