Best city in the world?

My Nan moved out near St Helens when I was a kid. Does anyone remember the wooden snake in the shopping centre there? In the 90s? Outside the Marksies

I'm NOT for ONE second suggesting St Helens should be recommended here by the way. Nor am I calling my nan a wooden snake.

Barcelona probably: food, sunshine and happiness.

It's great but over time it is a very small city so not as bustling as some might like and getting more expensive every year. I'll be here 12yr in July.

Of the places I've been to Florence is the one sticks out, just loved it and as happened with Barcelona from the first visit there I felt comfortable and could imagine myself living there. It's gorgeous and the foods great too. Surrounded by amazing history.

Of the places I'm yet to visit I am fascinated by Tokyo and would love to live there for a while

IMO it's because it's more laid back than other parts of Japan, has a comfortable feeling. Maybe this helps because I'm Western and Japanese culture is so distinct.

Update from my sister, who's not a GOT member and whose husband is a Gooner but herself has lived all over the world:

Japan: Kyoto, also really loved Hokkaido and Okinawa was nice; Kyoto was much slower, although she lived in Osaka for a summer and liked it at the time

In Europe: Florence, Barcelona, Munich

In Ireland: Galway (she lived in Cork)

Much of England was nice for her but none of it stood out

Where she'd like to visit next: Belgium, Hong Kong

Galway definitely my favourite city back home. If I ever moved back I'd move there.

Tokyo (Much like NYC and London really) you need your money. Unless you're pretty well off it's nowhere near as good. I don't mind London at all but to really experience it you need to be able to spend a few quid. I've been to Tokyo and it was great but I didn't get the same feeling as New York. I guess the language barrier didn't help but you just don't know what to do. It's obviously quite safe but step away from the bright lights and it's bit of a grim place. Clean but pretty dull.
