2024/25 Beto

Don't know how you can say that when we haven't started him for a full season like Dom.

His 4 league goals in a season and a half mostly are from the handful of matches he started and then the rest are subs appearances.

People will make every excuse under the sun for Dom and then come out with nonsense like this.

I'm sorry mate but you're making excuses. He can't trap a ball. He has had a season and a half here, and done very very little.

You can’t argue the same for Dom, because my point is multiple manager have seen both in training and DCL has constantly been selected and my point was that managers are seeing certain players in training and not selecting certain ones.

If you think, from what you’ve seen on the pitch that Beto is a better player than DCL, then that’s fine and not my point. I think DVL is better, not only because of what I’ve seen, but also because professional football managers have seen both at Finch Farm and constantly gone with DCL. It’s worth noting at this point that DCL has more or less constantly played and has barely scored, which isn’t good for DCL, but it should be damming for Beto, given what we’ve seen, but also the fact he’s barely been pick by managers. He’s rubbish. He can barely control a ball. History won’t look fondly on this transfer.

Also consider, Broja instantly was above him in the pecking order upon his return to fitness and that’s with very limited time on the training field.

Chermiti passed him by last season as well. If he had the ability to score a bunch of goals he'd be playing, Dyche may have failed this season but he would have started him if only for self-preservation.

We do need better and hopefully Moyes can identify someone.

But it still doesnt change that Beto has only played over 60 mins twice all season in the league. It's hard for a player to make an impact with the lack of minutes, especially a player who needs to work on some weaknesses.

The other side of it is that people feel embarrased by Beto's poor touch and clumsy play but will defend Calvert Lewin going 16 games without a goal which is unbelievably bad for a Premier League Striker. And the likes of Dyche and a section of our support will justify his inclusion from the start regularly just cause he holds up the ball well but provides little to no goal threat.

If we saw the DCL who played vs Spurs last week or Liverpool at Goodison last season on a regular basis then i'd have no issue with Beto never getting a run of games.
Good post mate. This is how i felt about the whole situation, plus this season his aerial duel and ground duels won have been down 25-30% from last season. The fact is DCL hasn't looked bothered and has been coasting along under Dyche. I think the difference in his xg last season and what he scored was the biggest in the league.

The fact that he continually played DCL last season when he went on his marathon run of not scoring completely undermines your point! No one is saying he's going to score loads but he'd have to be going some to not score more than DCL if he was given a run and we played to his strengths.

It doesn't undermine my point. He isn't stupid, if he thought he had a better chance of collecting points with Beto he would have played him more.

Everyone debates the merits and motivations of a manager playing one player over the other, and no one talks about the most important motivation: the manager's job.

He can't control the ball. He doesn't deserve a run. Any strengths he has are muted by his lack of skill, awareness and aerial ability.

His xG was 13, he scored 7 goals, over the course of 32 games he missed a chance every 4 games.

Doesnt really seem that excessive to me.

Broja can’t stay fit but I could see there was a player there. It took 3 minutes to see it and 30 minutes to know it wasn’t a fluke.

Beto hasn’t had a fair run of games but in the time he has had I don’t see that there is a player there.

I cannot think we risk finishing the season with Beto as the only viable option. I think that’s madness.

Or simply lack of ability !
Anyone can improve their pressing by good coaching and game time. In fact anyone can improve any aspect of their game by good coaching. When Benitez was first at Liverpool he religiously coached and drilled Pepe Reina on his positioning, where he should be depending on where the ball was and where the strikers were. I had a mate of mine who worked at Anfield at the time and he used to go over exactly how detailed this stuff was, it was eye opening. Result he turned Reina into one of the best goal keepers in Europe. It's the same basic principle, drill people until they can do it without thinking. It's not difficult but it does take a lot of hard work and attention to detail by the manager and coaching staff.
