I sort of assumed that all your talk of fantastic forward play was a bit tongue in cheek and so went along the same lines but maybe not. Like I said, my entire point was that i'm not being black and white about it - he has good points and can be useful for us, but he also has massive glaring weaknesses and I genuinely think anyone who suggests otherwise can only be on the wind up or have a very strange understanding of football. To use the example of our interplay from last night as evidence of how we don't need to hold the ball up, when our forward line had pass completions rates of between 40-60% and we had about 15% possession in the second half made me assume you were in the former camp.
Glad i can clarify mate, i do think hes played very well, not just 6 in 9, but in terms of dominating centre halfs and in creating/scoring chances himself with a lot to do in creating them - happy to clarify for you. Over his Everton career he has 1 in 2 in terms of starts and goals.
I think everyone has strengths and weakness, but id also suggest that as a fan group we are often conditioned into our one big man up front, who can hold it up an bring others into play and place a lot of weight on those attributes as good - people have different strengths and i think all can accept Betos are less of the former and more of the playing off the shoulder. Part of me likes that he is and brings something different and less telegraphed as an "Everton type forward".
You will forgive me for taking the stats with a pinch of salt away at Anfeild i wouldn't necessarily see them as a mean at this stage of team development under Moyes. I thought our counter play and transition yesterday was very good in phases particularly the first half, was particularly impressed with Charly and i liked the link ups between he and Beto. If I'm being honest i thought we created the best chances. Just my take.
