While Ghost and Mikel dance into the sunset, dreadlocks flowing singing "one love", I think I'll start a new thread called "Political correctness: What the hell's wrong with such a good idea!!!"(y)(y)

Not as catchy a song title as Nick Lowe's "What's So Funny 'bout Peace, Love & Understanding?" (y)

Thing is, will it ever be right?

There is discrimination amongst people of the same colour across towns, villages, schools, classes (not social classes).

Biblical times there were more brutal wars, and back then they were all about I'm the King and I want your land. The Roman empire - wiped out people across Europe - basically did what Hitler tried, but clearly not seen in the same light.

So back in the day people are fighting against Racism, but it will be to no avail because you have white people abusing black people, black people abusing Mexicans/Hispanics, Hispanics fighting Chinese, Koreans fighting White people.

Asking for an end to Racism is like asking for World Peace. Will never ever happen.

I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You're a plague and we are the cure.

Agent Smith rocks.

I blame the boat builders, without who none of us would know other races exist.

You can look at it as birds in the woods; all different, and all know each other are there, but all with their eye on one another.
What makes us different is that you don't often see a Robin sharing a nest with a Sparrow, or vice versa, basically meaning all works well untill one species wants to integrate with another.
Occasionally one Sparrow might welcome the Robin, and a new species is born, but jump in to too many Robins nests, and the majority will peck your eyes out.

I love those 3 films. :D

I'm not black but my ex husband is north African and my own experiences while in his company, out and about would suggest to me that there are still alot of people that treat black people differently.
He is also a Muslim and post 9/11 was a difficult time, not locally where we lived but certainly when we went out to Chester or wherever.
We went on holiday to Italy and on the way back he was taken out of the passport queue (he holds a French passport having been born in France) and disappeared for what seemed like ages, I was left sitting there, told nothing and treated like [Poor language removed].

Of course the silly bugger didnt help matters by insisting on being called Doctor (he's a PhD in applied Mathematics) and telling the jobs worth what was wrong with the education system in Britain.
No bloody wonder I divorced him! Too brainy and too arrogant!

Anyway, I digress, the point I'm trying to make is that while everything is going okay, people are treated fairly and more or less equally but the minute something goes wrong - 9/11, mass unemployment (those Poles are taking our jobs) or whatever, the majority will find a minority group to pick on and that minority might well be a racist minority.
Hope that maks sense.

So let's not bother then eh? That is what I feel you are insinuating by making the same type of sweeping statements like that.

I could highlight many very real forms of discrimination displayed on this very forum if I wanted too.

I think we are going around in circles here. BT began what should have been a harmless thread but it has turned sour. Without wanting to come across all bossy, would it not be a good idea to close this thread?

i think what they are trying to get across and failing ,is that....

people are accused of being racist these days all to easily.
surely racism refers to remarks that are discriminatory and intended to cause offence.
if a person says that they find a remark to be offensive, then gone are the days of saying, "sorry i didnt realise it was offensive to you," followed by, "no problem mate, if you wasnt intending to offend then fair enough."

as i've said, ignorance is probably the cause and ignorance is a chance to educate, someones ignorance is not entirely their fault.

what they've also been trying to say as well i think, is that it's ok for someone to call goat 'a wool' or a 'wirral [Poor language removed]' including bt yet if the person happens to be non-white (and apparently 1 drop of non-white blood in your heritage makes you black) then the same sorts of comments cannot be applied.
when the pakistan cricket team tours australia and nz they are referred to on tv and in the papers by an abbreviated version of where they come from, there is never a complaint from them whatsoever. the word only became offensive because the indians here objected to being called it, as they were so offended at being referred to as being from pakistan and not from india, more a case of them being racist towards their neighbours imo, however it then became a phrase that was used by nf etc.

so, if your heritage is from jamaica bt, then is it more acceptable to take the pish with "you jamaican this and that", cos it does appear that you cant say "you indian this or that" or other nationalities ?
cos at the end of the day there is banter about where you come from wherever you are in the world.

we take on board what you have said about attacks etc, but believe me, a great deal of people wouldnt have done it then and a great deal wouldnt dream of doing it now, the 60's and 70's are looked back on as politically incorrect, but i'll bet that a lot of banter was had in those days between different nationalities without offence being taken. it does make it very difficult to ask questions when you are treading on eggshells to avoid causing offence, both in the real world and on here.

in fact i've got like one of those tourettes buildups trying to get out

*struggling here, mmm,mmm,mm,,f,f,f,f,f,f,f,f,f,f,f,f,f,f,f,f,f,

Well I am not insinuating that. Do you think I want this country and the world to plumb the depths that was once a sickening affair?

Right, not going to get involved in a slanging match.

So you can all think what you like about me, couldn't give a toss.

I dont think ill of you mate. How can anyone think you're a racist when you choose to have a black man as your avatar?

Same here, Ghost is a good egg. We have our spats from time to time but he is a really good fella and an excellent poster.

Didn't it all get out of hand though. No longer could we call a blackboard a blackboard etc etc.
The problem with this country is that it lies down too easily, and in turn creates problems for it's self. Allowing Mosques etc is rather strange, when in a Muslim country, you can be put to death for preaching Cristianity.
I'm right behind people who want to prevent racism, but there are many out there who are crying wolf all too often. The biggest issue for me is a lack of education leading to false presumptions about other races, though certain cultures just haven't moved into the 21st century, and that can be a little intimidating for many.

As its Black history month I thought that I would share something with you which I suspect that most of you know, but may not appreciate.

Mike Trebilcock, when he scored his two goals against Sheffield Wednesday in 1966 became the FIRST Black player to score in an FA Cup final.

We already know that Saha has scored the fastest EVER FA Cup Final goal.

Just thought you'd like to know.

Thanks for sharing mate, I love history & I love Everton. Simples, no fuss no bother. (y)
