Talking of black history, I see Obama's been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize - not bad for 2 weeks in office! I'm sure he would rather have been awarded it after 2 terms in office, when he will hopefully have actually achieved a few things as President to merit the award.

In full disclosure, I voted for Obama.

He's been in office less than one year. He may have some promising thoughts about world politics and dealing with the Middle East (all facets - Israel, Iran, Pakistan, Iraq, Guatanamo Bay etc...), but he hasn't accomplished anything worthy of a Nobel Peace Prize. He may earn one in the end but he hasn't earned it yet.

Think it was awarded more as a rebuff to our former President and his policies - maybe we'll start playing nicer in the sandbox with everyone else. Although somebody should take Obama to task for his threats at protectionist economic policies which curry favor with labor and trade organizations.

You wanna sort your healthcare out over there, that's for sure. I know ours isn't great but at least the poor can go and visit a GP if they are sick.

The daft thing is that nominations closed 1st of Feb. so he hadn't even been in office for 2 full weeks - it's almost as if they gave it to him just for being the first black President.

Talking about black history does anyone remember the winger Cliff Marshall, who played 7 games for us in the mid 70's.

It really pee'd me of when Amokachi signed for us and I think John Fashanu and all the press commented - about time we had black players, liverpool signed Barnes years ago... racist everton...etc...etc.

That's the point - healthcare is not viewed as a right but a privilege. Most Americans get their healthcare through their employer as a benefit and depending on the plan, it can be very inexpensive for excellent coverage.

Those who can't afford it either never see a GP and when they finally do go to the hospital etc..., they go to the ER which the hospital generally eats and passes back to paying customers which increases insurance. Vicious cycle, eh. And when those that can't afford it finally get to the hospital, their costs of treatment are ridiculously higher because they haven't been getting preventative care which presumably would have caught and treated any ailment when it was first getting started.

It's a tough sell - Americans are used to choosing who they see for medical care and we're mostly used to getting excellent medical care when we need it. It gets lost that alot of Americans can't afford medical care.

Alot of Americans are afraid that their medical care (choice, treatment) will be chosen for them by the government and that if there is no financial incentive for MD's, hospitals or pharma to be profitable, the general quality of care will decrease.

Does anyone remember Eric Black?

Boss player for Aberdeen him, he's now number two at Sunderland.

played under fergie didn't he ?

what about Imre Varadi as well

wikipedia said:
Varadi started out in non-league football with Letchworth before joining Sheffield United in 1978, shortly before his nineteenth birthday.[1]
Varadi went on to become a nomadic journeyman, who rarely spent more than two years with any club and never made 100 league appearances in the colours of any team he played for.
From Sheffield United, he moved on to Everton, Newcastle United, Sheffield Wednesday, West Bromwich Albion, Manchester City, Sheffield Wednesday again, Leeds United, Luton Town, Oxford United, Rotherham United, Mansfield Town, Boston United, S****horpe United and finally had a spell as player-manager at Matlock Town.[1][2]

hungarian descent apparently, i always got the impression he was of indian descent, obviously very olive skinned.

I remember seeing him on MOTD, I was so made up. Then, nothing. Mind you, all I saw was him on the ball, and that I think was that.

If your good enough, what difference does it make what race you are?

Just a tiny, tiny example. If race had not been squeezed out of the USA election, Obama would never have won. He was judged on the content of his character, not the colour of his skin.

How often does that happen?

And although it seems heaven sent
We ain't ready, to see a black President, uhh
It ain't a secret don't conceal the fact
the penitentiary's packed, and it's filled with
blacks.
