Simms isn’t in athletics, he takes part in football training sessions, not specific athletic ones. Name 1 player, ever, anywhere in the world, that has increased his speed from the age of 20 onwards?
Usain Bolt was brought in to work with Rooney and Ronaldo and they gained pace and acceleration from it, in their 20s

I’ve been watching Everton, and football in general, since 1974 and not once have I ever seen a player get faster. Their pace is their pace.
That just isn't true.
There is plenty that can be done to increase a players pace , if that were the case an athlete could just stop competing at a certain age because they could not improve any further.

Most football sprints are relatively short, the first couple of yards are vital, some players can be a bit flat footed in those vital steps.
I know of a young footballer who was advised to take up dance because it would improve his footwork .

I don't see him getting games if he stays next season. 3 or 4 cup starts assuming we draw no-marks in the early rounds, and a handful of games to cover DCL injury/fatigue. Maybe an additional handful of 89th minute sub appearances to run down the clock.

As tempting as it is to get young players in the team as soon as they do anything remotely good (see: Gordon), I think everyone is best off if we give him a season in the Champo to further test his mettle.

Any gains would be marginal. These are already very fit people.

Training will of course improve certain aspects, but no one is adding much to top speed.

I’m baffled as to why people think Simms hasn’t got any pace already. At every level he’s played at , including League 1 , he’s outpaced defenders to score his goals. You wouldn’t play him as a winger, but I’ve never seen anything yet to doubt his speed through the centre, I can’t recall any defenders who‘ve beaten him for speed. It’s all relative of course, he’s been measured against U23s and League 1 defenders in the pace stakes.

Re your “ Their pace is their pace” , That’s only partly true , if a player is slow at 20 he’s not going to be a speed merchant at 30. But in the world of athletics you don’t usually hit your peak as a sprinter until 24- 30 years. There are many physical and practical reasons why a 20 year old will get faster, particularly as their bodies develop with greater training load . Simms could get faster with specific training, but too much and it would likely come at a cost in other areas. We’re likely to work on keeping his upper body strength, increase his ability to leap higher , speed over 10 yards etc rather than add the proverbial yard of pace to his overall speed.
Not sure about increasing speed bit but pickup on the your comment he isn't slow anyway; seems you have watched him more than most. Plus the way he is built and plays inclines him to be less injury prone. Give me the football head in timing and thought any day over raw pace (yes would love both before anybody comments) that can be trained and learnt, if he has that instinct already then I watch with interest.

But surely its incremental, yes at this level you will get performance improvements but you wont take a Rooney and make him a Vardy pace wise.

Mad isn't it? We're all wanting Kean shipped out after banging in goals left, right and centre in top class games, and want to replace him with someone who got 10 goals in League 1 :hayee:
I’m disappointed because he will go on to be a top striker, but I knew once dunc subbed him off at old Trafford is everton career was done.

I could be wrong but didn't Simms just join Blackpool in the winter window. So 10 goals in half a season. 10 goals in his first attempt at senior football. Scoring in high pressure knock out games too.
I've no idea if Simms will make it at the top level or not but as for Kean, I've a feeling most strikers would do well against French league 1 opposition with Neymar and Mbappe just behind them.
Wanting to give Simms a shot over a want away Kean is not that mad.
FWIW, I hope Blackpool get promoted and he gets a season with them in the championship.

Simms has done well, and hopefully the lad will have a good career in the game. Kean is currently away with the Italy squad for the Euros and has scored goals in the Champions League. Right now they're on a different planet.

Running spikes is another one, it builds the uscle in your ankles for the sharp turns

yea they are.
Having seen (on TV) Kean's performances for Everton, I don't think it's crazy to think that Simms could be a reasonable replacement for Kean as a backup striker to DCL.
I'd like to see Simms get a season in the championship and buy a striker who's more like Lukaku. I couldn't care less what their first touch is like or how their hold up play is as long as they bury most of the chances DCL missed.
