Seems to have that rare ability of knowing where the net is and his record is unbelievable at each level.

He has the physique too. If he can develop his speed, stamina and his all round play more which you would expect to do over the next few years, then he could be a top player. Another full year on loan playing regularly would be brilliant

We should 100% give him a new 2-3 yr deal and continue developing him. His potential, age and record will always see a lower league team take a chance if we decide he's not good enough

I agree with everything you say apart from developing speed. Not sure there’s anything he can do about that. What I do notice about him is the timing of his runs. His goal the other night is god evidence of how he times things right. That can be better than speed. Lampard was never fat but the timing of his runs is what gave him so many goals from midfield.

For the best strikers its speed of thought and over a few yards to get space that's important.

See below. Not so much speed over 50m as he may get 1 or 2 seconds faster but agree we cant turn him into a sprinter

Agree. As above, not so much sprinting speed, which he can improve by different fitness regimes, but a quick burst of pace and reaction times. Plus as you say, speed of thought too.

With his scoring record, he's definitely worth keeping for a bit longer.

I’ve been watching Everton, and football in general, since 1974 and not once have I ever seen a player get faster. Their pace is their pace.

I agree.
Pace alone doesn’t score goals either. He seems to have a knack of being in the right place at the right time.
I do t know how far off he is from the first team, but he seems to be on a good route.
Im sure he’ll get a go in pre season while they assess his improvement.
He may be a good option for the cup early rounds.

I’m baffled as to why people think Simms hasn’t got any pace already. At every level he’s played at , including League 1 , he’s outpaced defenders to score his goals. You wouldn’t play him as a winger, but I’ve never seen anything yet to doubt his speed through the centre, I can’t recall any defenders who‘ve beaten him for speed. It’s all relative of course, he’s been measured against U23s and League 1 defenders in the pace stakes.

Re your “ Their pace is their pace” , That’s only partly true , if a player is slow at 20 he’s not going to be a speed merchant at 30. But in the world of athletics you don’t usually hit your peak as a sprinter until 24- 30 years. There are many physical and practical reasons why a 20 year old will get faster, particularly as their bodies develop with greater training load . Simms could get faster with specific training, but too much and it would likely come at a cost in other areas. We’re likely to work on keeping his upper body strength, increase his ability to leap higher , speed over 10 yards etc rather than add the proverbial yard of pace to his overall speed.

Simms isn’t in athletics, he takes part in football training sessions, not specific athletic ones. Name 1 player, ever, anywhere in the world, that has increased his speed from the age of 20 onwards?

Jamie Vardy. I watched him when he was 23/24 at Fleetwood. He was fast but nowhere near the lightening speed he obtained at Leicester. Closer to home DCL. At 20 years old playing for our U23s, occasionally 1st team, and England U20s again he was fast but not as fast as he’s become the past two seasons. Modern training is not just kicking a ball about.
If you really believe that every 20 year old in the world who’s ever played has somehow stayed at the same speed forever , never improving despite modern Sports Science, nutritionists, physiologists, specialist trainers and equipment then we’ll have to agree to disagree.

Stands to reason tbh - as your muscles develop, you'll be able to add power to your running. This will make you marginally faster. Having said that, you're never going to go from Sigurdsson speed to Calvert-Lewin speed. But players can get marginally faster with the right training etc

Only happened when he became a manager.

Tom from Blackpool’s utmp provides the insight on how the young striker has got on so far in tangerine.

If using his strength and working on being good in the air is the next step then Dunc is the man for that. We've seen what he's done with Dom

Sterling ex Liverpool player now at City, there is a Scouser, not interested in football who gets people fitter in general health who Sterling was advised to go and see, he has put a yard on Sterling’s pace since he started working with this lad, don’t know if he calls himself a coach, he studies the way people run and adjusts it in certain ways to get more pace out of them.
