As another poster said, it's an emblem of the city and has been for long before the RS appropriated it. A royal blue Liver bird would show that we are proud of our city as well as our club. The fact that it would wind up their out of town fans (i.e. most of them) would be an added bonus.
A few years back I used a blue Liver bird as a logo for a local tour business which meant that I had to explain the none too subtle dig at our friends across the park to tourists from all over the world.
Sense at last! Whilst a liverpudlian would draw similarities between the two, ostensibly they're two different things. The Liver birds that sit on top of the Royal Liver Building are the symbols that represent the City of Liverpool and are recognised as such. When I see them. I instantly think of Liverpool and my home city. The red Liverbird of LFC is the LFC representation and when I see that version, I know it's their club version. There's a difference with the two. That'll do for me, no need for our own representation of it. I can differentiate between the two quite easily. That's it isn't it?
What is the point of this?
Explain it then! To me its cringe worthy..

Apologies I thought the face palm was at my confusion.. lol...and to me too.
Nothing to do with us, all about trying to score meaningless points against our wall pushing brethren.
Like you said, cringe worthy.
And the Tesco bags don't forget the Tesco bags.I think you must have had an irony by-pass, Tramps
It is a riposte which has been a long time coming.
When Kirkbygate looked like becoming a reality, Kopite glee was unrestrained.
They came to Goodison and chanted "The city's all ours.....the city's all ours....you're going to Kirkby....the city's all ours...."
For good measure, they chucked lots of socks on to the pitch in an apparent reference to socks being stolen from washing lines in Kirkby
That banner?
That looks to me like a bit of fun....a witty retort to our soon to be erstwhile near neighbours that we are not headed out to Kirkby but in fact are moving further into the city of Liverpool.......to the very banks of the Royal Blue Mersey
I agree with you it is a bit cringe worthy for me . But considering how rotten it felt to be at the receiving end of their 'banter' at the time of the Kirby fiasco, I don't blame anybody for wanting to give a bit back....and to me too.
