A rarity for me - I believe this is my first record of this hoverfly. Eristalis inticaria female.

According to Nature Spot, this large hoverfly is unlike the other UK Eristalis species in being a furry bumble bee mimic. (The males are dark with a reddish-brown tail) whilst the female (seen here) has a white tail and is somewhat larger.

Nature Spot also says this species always has a yellow scutellum.

@dholliday - Nice captures m8 - she is a female (cross spider or garden spider) Araneus diadematus. You have her with a wasp - I usually get plenty of them in the garden in autumn when the apples from from our tree, but like many insects this year, there have been remarkably few.

I have seen hardly any butterflies - apart from the odd 3 or 4 that Bilbo Baggins Cat has caught and eaten (he doesn't catch birds!)

Yesterday I managed these 3 pics - I think this is a large white (Pieris brassicae) butterfly, only the 2nd one I have seen in my garden in 2017!
