Both Floyd and Manny have naturally slipped these last few years but I still believe its the most competitive fight out there for both fighters.
People talk about Manny's KO power having diminished, I would say the same for Floyds punch resistance, he was lucky against Maidana last time out that he was caught right at the bell and not earlier in round 3, the minutes break helped him and he had to take round 4 off throwing no punches, steadying the ship.
This happened even with Maidana being forced to wear the heavier gloves despite the nevada commission verifying that the lighter gloves were indeed suitable for the fight. It really is amazing how much power Floyd has when it comes to stipulating rules with regards a fight. After the first fight with Maidana when calls were being made for the rematch and Robert Garcia (Maidanas trainer) posed the question to Richard Schaefer about whether his fighter would be allowed wear his gloves in a rematch, he was met with a "we'l see" response, in other words "no chance", it was right then and there, in the ring straight after the first bout that the rematch lost all significance for me.
I just dont see the fight being made myself, you have the big obstacle of who will televise it, with showtime and HBO covering both fighters atm, then you will have all the little details, weight, gloves, venue, etc, and neither fighter will feel as though they are in a position to be dictated too by another when they can still $30m plus by fighting other lower risk opponents.
They haven't long left and if they aren't to fight one another, i'd like them to be better matched than, as good as he looked, Manny was last week and Floyd has been in his last two. For me, a fight between Manny and Danny Garcia at 140lbs would be a very good fight, while i'm guessing Floyd is keeping a close eye on the winner of the Khan-Alexander fight in a fortnights time.
