Boxing

Think it was pre-many when Bowe ducked as well? Cant be certain, Lewis did school him in the amateurs mind, but still poor from Bowe to run from him

bowe was offerd the fight , the normal for a challenger is 70/30 to bowe as champ ,he counterd with 90/10 and binned the belt, lewis had just beaten two big names and he thought at 50/50 split was more in order, would have been a decent fight at the time later on lewis would have beat him .
hope fury gets sparked by haye

In the highly unlikely event of Fury winning this a fight against a Klitchko would be on the cards IMO. That said I doubt either would fight him.

Used to knocking over crap pumped up cruisers.

Everyone involved in boxing always sound utterly thick.

Actually, involved in British boxing. Apart from Barry Macguigan.

Conte was pretty sharp. And Ali said 'pretty' as well.
Richie Woodhall is no mug, same with Calzaghe. Steve Bunce on the other hand is a modern wonder of sports journalism.
Ray Winston fought 84 fights without loss for British amateurs.

So far as Fury and Haye go, Haye will school him with speed and it'll be over in 5. Rumour on the boxing grapevine is the purse is 75% Fury because Haye wants it so much as a stepping stone for a Klitschko.

It was a brilliant shot, interesting to hear Macklin comment afterward how every punch that was landing packed power and were hurting him. You can never be sure if he will carry the same power up in weight, for that reason i'd like to see him fight another couple at middleweight.

I don't think Martinez would fancy it but it might still make the best fight for him financially right now, although he has aged badly, Golovkin doing a number on him, or even Chavez Jr would increase his popularity even more, then he could go up to fight the likes of Ward, or even Froch who Eddie Ahearn mentioned as a possible opponent for Golovkin.

I don't think Martinez has really aged badly. He's 40 now, still probably a world class fighter and he hasn't lost much speed on his punches. His problem is that he gets hit quite a bit and seems to get knocked down every time he fights. Style-wise a fighter like Golovkin would destroy him. Even if he could last 12 rounds and win a few of those rounds you would have to assume he'd go down 2-3 times and lose on points.

Never has the old saying 'you only need to find one punch', not his biggest fan, but Derry Matthews hung in there last night then found a cracking left hook out of nowhere to end it, great stuff

What a shot, on the receiving end of a battering especially in the 9th, looked like he would be the one to go if anyone, maybe a 3rd scrap with Crolla for Matthews now.

All credit to him though, he saw Coyle was open, didn't have time to get full leverage on the hook, but still made it count, I don't think anyone would be against a third bout with Crolla, considering Matthews originally retired at 26, he has gone on to a decent domestic career

Credit to him is right, it was a pity the ref got in the way of viewing the punch live, super shot, Crolla would have seen things last night that would convince him he'd get the win at the 3rd time of asking, if Crolla doesn't get a shot at Burns provided he comes through his next bout i'd say that 3rd fight would definitely be a goer.

Froch vs Groves announced for later in the year for both the titles. Should be a cracking fight, but I think Froch will have too much for Groves at this point of his career. Groves a great prospect though

Groves couldn't get a few top level fights he was after and there's no one left to fight domestically is what I've read.

I thought this was a year too soon for him and I'd be very surprised if I was wrong.

Credit to him for taking it, regardless, that it'll be by far his biggest pay day.

I dont really think froch is all that in terms of being an all time great, hes a very very tough fella, and has decent but not great ability with it, he can be outboxed, see ward, taylor, and dirrel. Whether groves has the experience or ability to do that to a top level operator remains to be seen, an interesting fight all the same, and credit to froch for taking it
