Boxing

its a decent plan to be fair, but JC had the chin and an incredible work rate to pull him through, think Groves will have to be more hit and run than that, if he wants to engage on the inside it could be a long night for him, or a short one. Either way it wont end well

Froch's boxing skills are very underated and he has one of the best jabs around. I have followed groves from the start and think he is a very good fighter but i can't see how he can beat Froch at the moment. I havent seen anything from groves that makes me think he can box in a JC high tempo style. It could be more dangerous to try and put a new style in place for one fight. i Can't wait for this fight.

Froch head gets bigger with every day. I know all boxers have a tendency to be over confident but constantly talking about yourself in the third person is embarrassing. I went to the Kessler fight but don't think I will even get the Groves fight in the house.

Think Froch will knock him out. Looking forward to the boxing on Saturday night should be entertaining.

H, Can you see a way for Groves to win fighting his usual style? I don't think he should try and be JC just get in his face and pick the rounds up through working hard. I can't see any other way for him. This is the biggest fight of his career. He should be fit and strong enough to box hard for every round.

I can't see how he can box CF on the outside? His jabs nowhere near as good and he doesn't pick his shots as well either. If he lets CF come onto him and looks to counter and run he'll take some big hits in the process. He hasn't got the chin for it. It's a tough one because I'm not sure he can win whatever way he fights.

I think his best bets to pick up the early round which CF tends to let happen and then hang in from there really.

I'm not sure Groves can win the fight on the outside either, but I'm certain he wont win it on the inside, he has to be smart, engage when he can and move out the way, frustrate Froch. The only guy who has really beaten Froch up on the inside was Andre Ward, theres no point trying emulate Ward or Calzaghe, because he simply isnt that good. Froch can be outboxed and frustrated, Dirrell, Taylor, Kessler and Ward have all shown this and had good joy in that area. I dont really think Groves will be able to Froch what he did to a 12 fight Degale (and worth remembering that was a wafer thin decision), but thats the only way I can see him having any joy.

Only Ward has outboxed him in a long time. Wards a class above most at any weight. If he tries to box on the counter he'll get dragged into a fight and lose, I think.

Anywhoo I think we're basically agreeing he's got no chance.

I'd have given him an outside chance before I heard he's split from Booth.

Froch should take him apart, but it could still be a good fight to watch.

Same. Every fighters got a punchers chance. Groves is a good fighter too. Just a big step up. Splitting with the trainer is always a bad sign if it's in the build up to the fight.

As you can see me and Walken, who opinions I really respect, would approach it completely differently in his shoes. Be interesting at least to see how he handles it. I hope he doesn't just go and fight. He's got a big heart but that rarely works at that level.

Plus, Froch has been mixing with the very top fighters consistently for the past few years in the super 6 thing. He's fighting at the very top of his game.

If he gets into a war with him, then unless he gets lucky with a bomb, or a cut, then he loses imo.

He'll have to pick & choose when to move in & look to pick off Froch as he comes forward, but good luck to him with that, as better than him have tried & failed.

Froch is made of granite & has a mental strength & boxing intelligence to go with it. He's on his way to being the next Calzaghe in terms of, he'll only get the true recognition he deserves once he's hung up his gloves.

He'll never be that for me. Not enough victims on his list and not enough top fights. Certainly worthy of respect and a good champion but he's never at any point been able to say he's the best in the division.

I respect him giving Groves his chance too. Very noble and something that he might feel was denied him.

Fair point, I suppose age is against him now & he'll never rack up as many scalps in the time he has left.

I didn't realise he had a choice with the Groves fight, I'd assumed it was a mandatory defence.

I think it was mandatory, Froch is one of those that doesnt like to vacate, plus this will be good money for what Froch seems to see as an easier night than some of his previous fights

He's only lost to the best. He can hold his head up regardless, but I wouldn't put him up there with Calazaghe or anyone of that stature.

I don't think that means anything to most boxers these days. If he wanted to avoid Groves and get a bigger fight he probably could have. Maybe even a Ward rematch.

I had the pleasure of meeting Joe once & having a pint with him, absolute gent.

Ward would be a career ender imo, so if he does go back for a 2nd go, it'll be his final payday.
