I have just made beetroot hummus (houmous? No idea how to spell it!) It is amazing. Home grown beetroot supplied by my daughter's boyfriend. I have never felt more lefty/woke/feminist/ecowarrior ish. I need to find a tree to chain myself to. ? ? ?

The first consignment of beetroot was used to make beetroot and apple soup. It was vile - tasted like apple flavoured potting compost.

Thank you. That's going to be next! However I did go to Slimming World once and a woman brought beetroot brownies in for us to try. They were awful. Everybody was terribly polite though and said how lovely they were ? ?

A friend invited us to a barbecue once and knowing I didn’t eat meat made an extra effort to cater for me, the only veggie there. He made a special journey to Waitrose some miles away and bought some of their beetroot burgers. I’d never tried them before but found out quickly that I like beetroot but not in a burger! Despite my offer to share the others declined saying it wouldn’t be fair to take my food so I had to force down 4!?
