What you rightly claim Re Baines are all in the past and while they may be duplicated in the future they also may not.
Galloway is all in the present and therefore is a known known ( and off we go into rumsfeld territory) Baines however, until he moves back into the realm of a known known is a known unknown.

Now I love Baines, he has IMO his own ice cream van parked just past the coolest end of the EFC Cool Wall.

All things being equal and unless Martinez plays favourites, which even if it comes off in spectacular fashion, sends out the wrong sort of message (IMHO) to both Baines, Galloway and the whole team.

Galloway hasn't done enough, if you see what I mean, ( but I fear you don't see at all, which is why we are having this conversation.) to get dropped.
again IMO.

Baines is no longer European & World Champion Left Back and hasn't been for some time...He may regain the Title, but I doubt it. never the less he's still a class act, just not really totally World class

Sorry, just cannot agree.

Last season, in 30 games he got 9 assists! You are saying he is passed it (or at least not as good as he has been) but this is the most he has got in 6 years and only been bettered once by him.

Don't be fooled by what is deemed his drop in ability, he is still light years ahead of Galloway.

Baines when he is fully fit again walks right into any starting 11, Galloway ha done brilliant but Baines is still one of the best Left Backs playing in the league, for the first time ever he will be playing in a team that can't just be loaded up against his side defensively either as right now our right hand side is murdering teams, imagine the damage he can do given a balanced attack and a lot more time and space to pick out crosses...

Add to that the injury could prove a blessing in the end - we will get for the last 20 games a fully fit Baines who has had a long rest without playing for the first time for him in years and who comes back into a team that has finally gotten over the over reliance on has realised that we have a right hand side of the pitch as well

Galloway wouldn't ever have expected such an extended run in the team so soon, so I'm sure he'll count himself lucky long after Baines has came back in for him. And he seems very professional too, so he'll just keep plugging away knowing he'll be in the team again sooner or later.

As brilliant as Galloway has been, he's a centre back at the end of the day and a lot of people seem to have forgotten what Baines offers us going forward.

It's not much of a debate for me. It's not like the Joel/Howard debate.

Galloway is miles better defending than attacking; he's obviously going to be a decent attacking centre-half (Stones) but not a particularly effective attacking full-back which I'm fine with as he wasn't bought to do that.

i think he will not play for left back as we have other 3 include Garbutt.
i prefer he will be loan out at next season and play more to get experiences.

maybe, but Galloway has done enough to keep (not lose ) his spec.

we will agree to differ and wait and see

nothing would please me more than to see Baines back to his best...but

First two months of last season Baines was incredible, after that was when he started getting niggling injuries. He's had that ankle injury for a lot longer than what he's actually been out for.

what we have here is actually 2 questions

1) should Galloway be hooked automatically once Baines is '100% fit'

2) How good will he be if /when back

Q1 is the key for me. we will find out the answer to Q2 if and when Galloway gets injured / hits poor form

me? I can wait to find out

I'm done here

When he came back in preseason before his current injury he looked awesome, looked like the baines of 2-3 years ago, no matter how good galloway has done baines takes his spot back no question

Galloway's not a left back but has gained valuable experience, Baines is one of the best around. Easy enough for me.

Galloway has been dependable, and he's a neat and tidy player, however, he's not comfortable running with the ball/trying to beat a man. He's a bit like hibbo in that respect.

Given Baines' age and experience, then if he doesn't walk straight back in, then we may as well flog him ASAP, as he's likely only got 2/3 seasons left in him.

I have said this before, but I don't think it should be an automatic thing - give Galloway the experience of having to play knowing that there is someone waiting to take his place, it will be of benefit to his development and it is important (when we have such a young and talented squad) to support youth rather than boot it out of the way just because an older player is fit.

Also I am not really sure about the "he isn't an attacking full back" thing, just look at some of the positions he is in when we score. Finally he should not be sent out on loan next season, he has shown in these games he is good enough for at least a place on the bench. Oviedo is the person most at risk of being moved on, IMHO.
