I have said this before, but I don't think it should be an automatic thing - give Galloway the experience of having to play knowing that there is someone waiting to take his place, it will be of benefit to his development and it is important (when we have such a young and talented squad) to support youth rather than boot it out of the way just because an older player is fit.

Also I am not really sure about the "he isn't an attacking full back" thing, just look at some of the positions he is in when we score. Finally he should not be sent out on loan next season, he has shown in these games he is good enough for at least a place on the bench. Oviedo is the person most at risk of being moved on, IMHO.

He might take up attacking positions, but with the ball, he's not an attacking full back. In fact, he's not even a full back at all really. He's doing a job there, but the consensus within the club is that he's a future centre half or maybe a CDM.

He gets in some fantastic attacking positions but never makes the most of it

All things being equal and unless Martinez plays favourites, which even if it comes off in spectacular fashion, sends out the wrong sort of message (IMHO) to both Baines, Galloway and the whole team.

Galloway hasn't done enough, if you see what I mean, ( but I fear you don't see at all, which is why we are having this conversation.) to get dropped.
again IMO.

I suspect if Oviedo hadn't done his hamstring against S'land that we'd be having a conversation about whether Baines will take Oviedo's place when he's fully fit, which he would have done. He'll also take Galloway's place and as @formerly manx toffee has said, Galloway would expect nothing else.

Thought he struggled today. The conditions did not make it easy for anyone on the pitch and definitely set up a sloppy game but him and Kone on the left were our biggest problems.

Baines will come back into the side at a good point now, with Galloway's form on the slide.

Bit harsh to say his form's on the slide mate. He struggled today, but he's played well most of the time this season. Part of the difference today was he made mistakes in a game we conceded three in so those mistakes get highlighted. He's made mistakes in other games but we've not been punished so no-one remembers them.

It's all good experience for him.

I've this a few times now, so apologies to anyone thinking I am banging on.

At West Ham away he was torn to bits, especially in the first half. Same happened again today.

Villa he was decent, in the context of a game where they put hardly any pressure on us.

He is being beaten a tad too easily. He needs to close down, be strong in the tackle and clear his lines if needs be.

Don't get me wrong, it has been a great learning experience for him. However, he will benefit from being dropped to the bench for a bit now as we bring Baines back into the side.

I didn't see the West Ham game, but that's a fair appraisal, and I suspect as soon as Baines is properly fit then that'll happen. He's clearly talented and the injuries to Baines and Oviedo have given him a chance to get some top level experience which'll be useful as he progresses to his more natural position. I wouldn't be surpruised to see him starting the odd cup game next season at centre half.

I don't think either Galloway or Martinez will see the situation as Galloway being dropped, because it'll have always been the case that a fully fit Baines will take the left back spot.

He is only young and being played out of position.
We did struggle its a pity martinez never sorted the problem.

Agree. It's not that unexpected for him to have an off match (see Arsenal), and I agree Martinez should have seen he needed help and brought on an actual winger for Kone.
