Baines has more assists than any other defender in prem history as well as averaging nearly one goal in every 10 games.

Why people are stating that Galloway should keep his place ahead of Baines is beyond me.

He's done brilliant don't get me wrong; however his attacking output is miles below Baines. Plus if I have to see another Ross Barkley corner I'm going to shoot myself.

I don't think he should keep his place, especially because long term I still think he'll make a better centre back.

That said I think it's really interesting that Martinez played Baines in centre mid in the friendly he organized against Porto. Seems to me he must seriously be considering using Baines as a midfielder long-term.

I know it's simplistic to look at what one player has done (Lahm) and assume that another could therefore do it (Baines). But on paper they're pretty similar players, and Lahm has a done a great job for Munich.

Given that Barry will need to be phased out at some point in the (hopefully near) future, would Baines be such a bad option? His pace and distribution would certainly be an asset - I guess it just depends whether he can get used to the positional discipline you need for that role. Quite excited to see if it works though.

Really think people are reading far too much into 45 minutes in midfield for the reserves...

In a game that Martinez said he organized specifically to get Baines fit? And given that Martinez said this, only a few months ago:

""I've always thought Leighton can develop into Philipp Lahm's role, it is in his make-up... Not this season but in seasons to come he is someone who can play in that central role."

I think it's putting 2 and 2 together and getting 4 mate.

I personally would hate to seen Baines in midfield
And we had 4 centre mids and then bought a 5th in cleverly

So why would Martinez pick Baines ahead of 2 players he bought for that position
Doesn't make sense

Also Baines must be 31? Abd is starting to pick up injuries

Because a 30+ / unknown quantity post injury / Pienaar-less Baines might not be that player of yore...and Galloway has done nothing remotely bad enough to lose his place...in fact just the opposite.

Erm no he never, the game was part of the International Cup that the U21's are in... it wasn't organised for Baines whatsoever...

Jeez , we have the best young centre back in Europe and you want to experiment with where he plays. Madness , just like Hodgson playing him at right back for England.

Did I say move him? Just said I think he would make a good mid... He has everything he needs to play anywhere down the middle of the pitch

Right, so Galloway with one assist and no goals should start AHEAD of the premier leagues leading assisting defender who averages a goal every 11 matches 'cos he is over 30 and had an injury? WOW!

Yes, Galloway has done well but to play him ahead of one of Europe's (the worlds) best Left backs - REALLY?

What you rightly claim Re Baines are all in the past and while they may be duplicated in the future they also may not.
Galloway is all in the present and therefore is a known known ( and off we go into rumsfeld territory) Baines however, until he moves back into the realm of a known known is a known unknown.

Now I love Baines, he has IMO his own ice cream van parked just past the coolest end of the EFC Cool Wall.

All things being equal and unless Martinez plays favourites, which even if it comes off in spectacular fashion, sends out the wrong sort of message (IMHO) to both Baines, Galloway and the whole team.

Galloway hasn't done enough, if you see what I mean, ( but I fear you don't see at all, which is why we are having this conversation.) to get dropped.
again IMO.

Baines is no longer European & World Champion Left Back and hasn't been for some time...He may regain the Title, but I doubt it. never the less he's still a class act, just not really totally World class

This is how it is ....Galloway has done well and had great experience to help him become a better player .. He has been a little exposed at times and also reluctant to send in crosses at times ... Saying that he has done a good job for us. Baines coming back should improve us as a side and certainly help us attacking teams ... No brainer that he comes back in and will improve the side again ... Good times ahead lads if we can continue to improve
