Can Ireland beat France?

I'm an Englishman who does cheer on all the home nations (shock!) and I'm gutted for Ireland because they were the better team. At the end of the day though, Henry is not the first player to take advantage of a handball and 99% of players would play on after using their hand to control a ball. If the whistle doesn't go, why should he stop? If it had happened at the other end would, say Robbie Keane, have stopped play and told the ref he handled it? Or would Keane have centred for Doyle to score and send Ireland to South Africa?

I guess we'll never know...b)

I'm gutted today, we should have taken more of our chances. I dont blame Henry for handling it but dont hide behind "I told the ref, its not my fault" bollocks.

Did he really say that? I doubt it.

In portuguese newspapers the trascription says something like "i did handled the ball but i'm not the ref".

Meaning, it's not up to me to make people abide with the law.

He would be torned apart by french in general if he had done such a thing. Telling the ref "send us to the penalties because I don't want to go to the WC in this manner?" I don't think so, he's not that bold and fair.

I have to say they would be the same sympathy (except for ghost i would rub it in to him) and berting fifa for not having goal line technology.

If Ireland had of won by that tonight yes i would be happy we were in the world cup but disgusted that our captain stooped that low. Like i was when we got a peno for no reason against cypres earlier in qualifing. *Disclaimer not through cheeting just a dumb ass ref*

Supporting Ireland is like supporting EFC just when you think they are going to do something special they let you down or in this case cheated out of it.

Why to me? Because I tell you the truth?

Last night I had only seen it once and I felt that he hadn't brought it down with his hand, and that it had hit his hand. That for me wasn't cheating.

But then having seen it again I still don't think he cheated with the first handball, but the second one was as he basically gained an advantage by using his hand - and thus it was cheating.

But for me whether or not Henry cheated or not is not really the issue. It's the ref for missing it and the linesman also.

It's funny how many decisions, match winning decisions seem to go un noticed in the box, yet any finicky foul outside of the box is pulled up.

Not saying the ref cheats, but I definitely believe they are told to let pivotal decisions go either way, whichever suits the authorities.

And how many players, how many Irish players, how many Irish players in the game last night deliberatly broke the laws of the game to try and gain an advantage?

If it comes back none they have a case. But it won't.

Any little shirt pull, any little shove, any foul at all and it throws their whole argument out of the window.

How is that not cheating?

My Facebook is being bombarded by suggestions to sign a petition to have the match replayed, like that's ever going to work. Gutted as I am, this match should not be replayed. What's done is done now, the credibility of the game has been damaged by those biased ****ers Platini and Blatter not once but twice in the last few months. Thank christ they're not in charge of the Premier League, or Liverpool would win it every year, probably after those two c**ts reviewed the rules in April because Liverpool were coming second, again.

Well I suppose it is in a way.

It's a shame though that Henry has glossed over what was a poor performance in front of goal for both sides really.
