Can we finish in the top 4?

For starters our squad is too small, we dont have enough quality, we could be in torouble if we get a couple of injuries, the top 3 will be United, City, Chelsea, a 4 is open to the rs, Arsenal, Spurs, Newcastle, and yes we can be included with this lot but our squad is the smallest,

Arsenal have lost quality but Wenger always seem to finish in the top 4, depending on his buys and how quick they can sort themselves out.

Spurs are losing their best player in Modic, and getting rid of deadwood and a new manager who failed badly at Chelsea.

The rs are like spurs, new manager who could easily sink, their best player on the decline and a striker who cant score enough, but signed a few good players.

Newcastle were pretty good last season, and not sold their best players and brought a few more in, could have another good season.

We need another 2 players, and a win today will make me believe more.

we have a shot because we should be more clinical now in front of goal. In those games where we might only get one or 2 chances, with Jelavic you can be more confident of getting a goal. But we need to be winning games like today.

Everyone is writing arsenal off but they have signed some good players, Tottenham are now an unknown quantity, Newcastle have kept their best players and the sh1te may or may not improve. So basically we are in the pack, certainly not the favourites for 4th, but I would be disappointed if we did not challenge at some point

I had a bet for Everton to win the league without the big 4 as it was then (Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal and the sh*te) when we got 4th. £10 at 66/1.

I reckon we'll do it again.

If you compare the football we started last season playing with the first 2 games this season then we have a chance.
Last season, both Cahill and Saha slowed us down, allowing opposition defences to get back. This time round, we have pace and a cutting edge.
We have been playing good possession football for a couple of seasons now but the difference is goals. we have players capable of scoring from midfield as well as a prolific striker. One touch-bang!
And one more thing, I think Victor Anichebe will get us an extra 8-10 pts this season coming on as a late impact sub as well as a vital cup goal or 2.
Don't forget, we do have the 3rd best defence in the division and we start each game with 5 or 6 players all capable of scoring.

The 2 manc clubs will be there and we can be a match for them as we've shown already. Same goes for Chelsea. We are getting the measure of them too. Arsenal and Spurts cause us trouble but they lose games to teams they shouldn't.

We need performances like today against the lower and middle teams. If we can achieve that then top 4 should be a realistic ambition.

The team also needs our full support if they are going to get there so let's lay off ALL the players and support every man in an Everton shirt in every game.

COYB!

In terms of the ability of our starting eleven we are certainly capable of 4th place. Squad depth will be the problem though as we can't cope with more than a couple of injuries to first team players.

However, of the teams that would realistically challenge for 4th place (assuming the two Manchster clubs and Chelsea take the first three places), Newcastle are no stronger now than they were last year (and we gave them a footballing lesson didn't we), Spurs will be weaker once Modric goes and it will take time for them to gel to the AVB style of play, Liverpool are in utter disarray and even with new signings will take time to straighten out, and Arsenal have lost a key midfielder and their main goal scorer.

We are the only team in this group that can actually be looked upon as stronger than we were at the beginning of last season as we now have Peanut and Jelavic playing well (we only got them half way through last season) and the side is already gelled together. We don't concede many and we are now scoring goals.....a good start and who knows?

No chance of top four. We all know who takes those places up by right. The question is whether we can get our noses in front of either Spurs or Liverpool (who will pick up) to get 6th. Personally, I think we lack depth outside of 15 or so players.

Long way to go, but decent start.

disagree in part. I honestly do not think spurs or rs will be any problem this year. rs are an average ageing squad that are in a major stage of transition. they need atleast two years to compete. the standard of football has increased a lot in recent times across the whole league, so what was adequate before is not now. spurs are really quite average when you take out the modric and redknapp factors. plus everyone has figured out how to deal with bale now....it doesn't feel like their squad is confident playing for avb......that guy has a lot to proove to gain some r.e.s.p.e.c.t....... I think they are both, at best, as good as Everton of 2010/2011......arsenal I think are a wild card....they hinged a lot on v.p last year, with out him they would not be in c.l this year....with him gone it will take some Wenger magic to get them going again...but they only just made it last year, and they are definitley not any stronger this time round. so who knows......our squad on the other hand have had a good reshuffle which has seemed to get rid of the stale attitude stinking out the place over the last couple of years...mainly our inferiority complex is gone...and we seem hungry and confident we can compete....I feel like our players have something to proove out there....I think everyone knows it feels a lot different this season.

Newcastle still look good imo just watching them tonight you can still see they have something to offer.......so them and the arse are our real competitors me thinks......

I'm going to join John Lennon and be a dreamer, I don't see why we can't finish in the top four, we have the quality and if we get in a couple more players then I reckon we have a decent amount of depth

Injuries permitting we definitely can. Such a strong midfield and such variety too. There is nothing to fear in this league.

The last time we finished ahead of our neighbours in 2 consecutive seasons was 1937. If we achieve that this year , qualify for Europe and get a Wembley trip then this season will be as good as we've had for a long time and also give us something to build on. Having said that the only way I can see us keeping hold of Felli next summer is if we do finish in the top 4 . I think he's going to have a massive season this year and they'll all come knocking next summer .

its wrong that mate, the article didn't count the years when we were in the first division and liverpool were in the second, for some peculiar reason
