Carlo Ancelotti

Let's make no mistake here - he hasn't walked into such a mess since 1996 & we have no idea how he will adapt to a dis-functional squad, leadership with massive recruitment problems & a DOF who hasn't exactly set the world.

In reality, we have no idea how he will get on as it is 23 years since she has taken this kind of challange, but it is this challange for whoever takes it on & we might as well get the best - this we have done. Bravo

Neither United nor Arsenal have top international footballers across the park.

Aubemayang / Rashford aside I'd say theyre pretty weak in most areas

They both have European Football and squads not a million miles off competing for the top four, maybe one or two signings away - we’re about 7 or 8 signings away from that level - so it’s likely to be conducted across 2 or 3 summers at least, which would be unprecedented for Ancelotti’s recent work.

He should have just written a headline:

Everton, know your place

Some people can't handle change.
It’s utterly ridiculous from King. We’ve achieved nothing with unproven managers. Now one of the most successful managers in the world seems to be close to joining and he’s not the right fit for Everton?! They won’t be happy until we’re in the Championship playing under Ian Holloway!

I don’t think it’s negativity mate. I think it’s mostly surprise, but also questions. Even the most ardent blue would admit in all the excitement it’s a bit bizarre! Take a look at the comments at the start of this very thread.

Ancelotti taking over as our manager is totally different to taking over at Arsenal or United would make sense as it suits his experience of taking over established clubs with European Football and top international footballers across the park.

He won’t have that here, hence the questions and intrigue from all corners. It’s something even he has never done before.
Our squad is good, with good players, last season we stuffed Utd and Arsenal at home, bear Chelsea and drew with Liverpool, we finished 8th with no away wins pritty much. We have 2 players capable of getting 16 goals and even DCL seems to have stepped up. Buy a Defender and Mid in Jan and we fly up the table.

I disagree. Don't think that their squads are all that good, and don't think ours is all that bad.

How many Arsenal / United players would you want for our squad? I wouldn't be taking many myself

Maybe I'm wrong about Carlo, but if Brands wants to build through development of young players I don't see them seeing eye to eye. And again I really don't know what Carlo is thinking but it just seems like someone who has won the PL, CL and coached the clubs he has will want to build quickly and not try to really lay the groundwork in the way we desperately need. And that building from the ground up is what I thought Brands was here to do.

I can see the clash coming at some point, but to bring the best young players to the club and get them through and into the first team, there has to be a core of world class senior players around them. We can't bring through 11 youth players in one go. It'll take 3 years to get the first set through with the conveyor belt coming after that. I think it makes perfect sense to allow Ancelotti to pick up some key world class senior players and let Brands bring in the best youth. And when they are good enough, they are good enough. Feels like a it could be a great marriage. Guess we'll have to see

Lol we are not.. Arsenal has 2 strikers rest of the team rubbish, Chelsea aren’t great and Leicester arnt better then us, Take Vardy our of Leicester and your looking at a top 10 team...

Your acting like we are a new promoter side...

Leicester won the league with a wire team then us

The PSG of 2010/11 is similar to where we find our club today. In terms of squad quality and funds what would be available to Ancelotti strolling in.

You reckon we’re going to spend PSG levels?

I've already given you an example of that Ancelotti has completed a re-build of a club.... PSG.

He was sacked after little over 18 months, it was hardly a complete re-build. It’s not going to take him 18 months to build a title winning side here.

I've heard and seen nothing but good comments from his previous players from his man managing, tactics etc.

He’s a great manager, that’s not being disputed. One of the very best of all time. Totally and utterly undeniable to suggest otherwise. He has worked with some of the very best players during his time and many have great things to say but there are also those who said not so great things about him.

Balance has been the problem with our squad for years.

We have decent quality scattered around the squad but the whole thing breaks down because we've brought in and relied on duds like Sigurdsson, Walcott etc.

Yes let’s turn down a PL and FA cup winner and appoint a manager who’s managed 16 PL games

Quite clearly your not an Everton fan and that’s fine but stop the trolling mate

Agreed. Wouldn't say we're as many as 7/8 signings off challenging Europe tho.

I recon we need about 3/4 top signings, strategically picked rather than the scattergun approach of the last few years
